I did not think for one moment that the lads and lasses of Burslem would sell themselfs short. I was just wandering if the current ballot should still be pushed on with just in case RM changed its mind?

Brilliant news - Well done Burslem you have shown us all what true Solidarity can achieve.

Perhaps the PEC will take this lesson on board as well and become more proactive in such disputes.

Now we need to win at Bristol.

It was a proud historic day for everyone at Burslem today.We assembled at the gates with our Burslem banner held high to the applause of our 12 suspended colleagues,and marched back into work with our heads held high.We were greeted by a new DOM and 3 of our previous managers with their heads towards the ground.The new DOM said that he was very much looking forward to working with us for the next 18 months(I BET HE IS).It was a good day,now for stage 2,justice and a return to work for the 12, and not forgetting BIG DAVE CONLIFFE too.I cannot wait for the day that all 110 of us are together again standing shoulder to shoulder in Burslem DO. Thankyou again comrades for your truly magnificent support,and lets hope now Bristol and the other offices fighting these union busting tactics succeed in their fight.Hopefully Royal Mail will learn from Burslem and the solidarity of fellow offices,that we will be no pushovers,and no matter how long it takes to get justice,TOGETHER AS ONE,WE WILL.
Hopefully see you all soon.

Striking postal workers are back delivering mail today after calling off their five-week strike.

Around 100 union members voted three to one to go back after accepting a deal with Royal Mail yesterday.

They are returning after securing an independent review into workplace relations at Burslem delivery office.

Also, any appeals by the Burslem 12, who sparked the dispute on December 18, will be heard by a manager from out of the area.

Royal Mail has also agreed not to dock holidays off the workers' annual entitlement despite them striking for five weeks. Dozens of the workers were today applauded back into work by the Burslem 12.

Nine of the 12 - who were suspended in September following allegations of bullying and harassment - also returned to work today at the Burslem depot, in Scotia Road, for the first time in five months. The other three workers are still suspended on full pay.

Lee Barron, Midlands regional secretary for the Communication Workers Union, said: "The 12 suspended workers went to a meeting in London on Tuesday and we met with members yesterday. Five workers had already been told they could return to work but only three of them would have been allowed to go back to Burslem. The other two were told they would have had to work elsewhere and there was no way we would allow that.

"After yesterday's meeting it has now been agreed that nine of the 12 suspended workers are going back today.

"The rest of the workforce has agreed to return to work but the three remaining suspended workers will remain outside work on full pay until their cases are resolved to our satisfaction."

The CWU had warned that the strike would have continued until at least February 12 if yesterday's meeting had not reached a resolution. Ballot papers had already been sent to the union's 1,600 members across Stoke-on-Trent asking them to walk out.

Dave Condliffe, who is currently on secondment to the CWU, before returning to his post at the sorting office, said: " Make no bones about it, it's half-time in this dispute and in the next couple of weeks we hope to have all 12 of the suspended workers back."

A Royal Mail spokesman said: "We are delighted that our people are returning to work.
