How if we and every other union is under attack by our own government?TopperGas wrote: ↑21 Jun 2022, 21:30But that's not a fight RM workers' are going to win, surely our only concern is getting a decent pay rise and getting most, if not all, of the changes kicked into touch. The shareholders can decide if the CEO still deserves a bonus next year once he's lost the battle with the CWU/RM workersk979aaa wrote: ↑21 Jun 2022, 20:09This is not about pay it is about control of you abolition of unions and everyone works for a set wage economy except the rich be for long the minimum wage will be what you earn or the minimum a contractor or employer or government will pay.clashcityrocker wrote: ↑21 Jun 2022, 19:57Are we going to threaten strike action because we want a fair pay rise or because we want to overthrow capitalism?
I doubt if any of the Tory-voting Brexit-backing staff in my DO would support the revolution.
And you can bet your bottom Euro that when this is all done and dusted that the CEO will still be earning a lot more than the frontline staff.
So while it might be really terrible that Si earns squillions, we aren't about to change that any time soon.

Re: RMCtv : Simon Thompson : The changes we need
He must think people are finishing hours in advance of their time in the summer which isn't the case in our office. If he wants earlier set finish times in the summer months then surely this will lead to excess overtime especially with the increase in parcels. Plus longer set hours in the winter will surely lead to an increase in absence.norris9 wrote: ↑21 Jun 2022, 18:04Analysing each proposed change.
A System of Yearly Flexi hours:
Based on my experience there is virtually no time spare to bank hours and have shorter Summer working days. The main reason some Posties might finish early is because they didn't take their breaks and/or they came in early.
If you implement this then you will need to make walks shorter in mail centres where they work to and beyond their finish time through Summer.
or
We could just stay as we are and if there are mail centres out there where it is clear they have easy Summers - then you need to revise their rounds to make them bigger. And amazingly you will then need less staff at those mail centres and save money.
Where are these early finish Summer days? they don't exist from what I have seen. And if you plan to take on more parcel contracts then we definitely aren't going to have these shorter Summer days.
So what's the actual deal here? What am I missing?

So they'll decide if you get hours or money back and when?
This sure sounds like an abusive relationship.

If they decide your duty is doable in the time you'll just have to cut off and bring post back?
Although if the changes are brought in and we hit the school runs etc we've probably no hope of finishing on time, I do the parcel runs some afternoon to a duty near a secondary school and if I time it wrong I just get stuck in all the cars and coaches trying to exit the side roads on to the main road, then the main back to the DO is chocca as well. That can add 30 mins to a 30 mins parcel delivery run.

Exactly.
Our current delivery period avoids morning rush hour, school rush hour and evening rush hour.... it works well....
I wonder if it's all a bluff like people are saying. Makes no sense to move the delivery timeframe to clash with school and work rush hours. They'd be paying thousands of Posties to sit in traffic daily, whilst also wasting fuel. Massive waste of time and money. It also goes against their narrative about becoming greener.

Re: RMCtv : Simon Thompson : The changes we need
This whole "its what we need" both in the literature and him repeatedly saying it.
No, it's what RM WANT.
That changes the argument.
Which in turn changes the dispute.
They're trying to get us to buy into the rhetoric that what they need is only so they can continue paying a dividend etc.
But what about what WE want?
We're not asking much, just for our wages to keep pace with inflation.
We've changed our working practices enormously over the last few years, such that delivery is unrecognizable to how it was even 5 years ago.
We work bloody hard for what we get.
But they just want to keep chipping away, and expect us to just accept that a pay rise is only achievable if we give up even more than we have already.

It's like model made by a five year old out of prepacked corner shop ham is being worked by a cabal of major shareholders.
Alternatively this is the ONLY nightmarish puppet that Pipkins rejected in case it traumatised children.

SIMON: 'Our customers want us to meet their consumer needs 7 days a week'.
You can't even meet their needs 6 days a week. We are only providing a 5 day out of 6 day service as you do not want to employ float workers who cover our rounds on our days off....
You don't care about the customer at all. You don't care about Ofcom rules either. You do not care about Posties who come into 2 days mail....
You care about saving the company money in wages and getting your £140,000 bonus.

Send us out of the office into the full heat of the day in the summer 11.30am - 5.30pm.
Make us deliver in the cold/wet dark in the middle of winter. Sun goes down and the temperature drops, but oh they want us to fiddle round in the dark getting colder and wetter.
Then put the icing on the cake, pay a pittance payrise in these times and reduce sick pay and IHR.
I have never in my 20 plus years at RM known such a demoralised and demotivated workplace as is the case now. Talk about losing the dressing room

Re: RMCtv : Simon Thompson : The changes we need
This 'BANKING HOURS' system Royal Mail want to bring in will surely cost them all the free work they are getting from people starting early and skipping breaks. Surely nobody is going to start early and skip breaks if an early finish means you will have to make the hours back in the winter.
They are going a step too far. Royal Mail already get more than their moneys worth from their staff. Yes Posties may go home before their contracted finish time some days, but most Posties sacrifice their breaks, some posties start early, a lot of posties won't book overtime even when they've finished up to 20 minutes late.
I can't see this idea being bought in as this could actually lose them money. Simon, are you sure you want to lose the free work you get from your staff?

They will try to bring this in as it will mean you won’t be able to cut off. Managers will be able to tell you that you’ll be taking it all, rather than you telling them you won’t. A complete turnaround.norris9 wrote: ↑05 Jul 2022, 23:29This 'BANKING HOURS' system Royal Mail want to bring in will surely cost them all the free work they are getting from people starting early and skipping breaks. Re: RMCtv : Simon Thompson : The changes we need
Breaks get mentioned a lot, mainly the fact that many don't take them, I expected one of the strings to have been the removal of paid breaks but they seem to be leaving that alone for now.
