Well nobody gives a toss these days - our photo IDs arrived about 3 months ago and I have hardly seen anyone displaying them. The cord goes round the neck and the ID card goes in the shirt pocket. There could be anything on the end of it. Like you years ago you had to display your brass badge and Managers checked you wore them and we had a gatehouse where visitors signed in and was escorted into the building. Nowadays anyone strolls into the DO and nobody checks who they are - we've been pulled twice by the IB for lax security.k66yla wrote:Did'nt people used to get disciplined for loosing there badge? I'm sure when I originally started back in the 80's that was the case. I've been back nearly 5 years now and have never had a badge or any form of ID.

wore mine on the day we got them.
hit me on the face running up stairs
so i tucked it in the shirt and it caught my chest hair
also not happy it displays my full name
i see we are meant to use the badge number on the shut notices but thats no good on the
callers when you are trying to work out it it was a driver/postie on the duty!

Chances are you can get your name changed on it.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

I had my picture took 4 months ago and still haven't recieved my ID card. Another waste of money in my opinion, I can't understand why they scrapped the old sturdy metal red and silver badges they were indestructable unlike the cheap flimsy plastic gold badges they have now. I can forsee the card hanging round my neck pissing me off after a while on delivery, I can't imagine it being very practical at all for delivery staff!!

I gave my card a three days' trial wearing it, and it's just not practical to wear one round your neck when you're moving sacks of packets about. It gets caught up on the edges of the packets, especially where the sacks are frayed, and pulls tight when you try to put the sack down. The cord does have a safety opener but you have to pull quite hard before it opens and you get free from the packet sack. My card stays in my pocket now so it doesn't get caught on things when I'm working.

Yes its ok for the managers who don't do any "physical work" but for everyone else NOT practical...jemima wrote:I gave my card a three days' trial wearing it, and it's just not practical to wear one round your neck when you're moving sacks of packets about. if you reverse the card it should just have your first name on the other side with no photo that's how all ours were deliveredcustard wrote:wore mine on the day we got them.

No the chosen name is on the reverse side, which means it'll only be seen if you don't wear it according to the correct procedure. The front bears your full name along side your photo; also including serial number, expiry date and the phone number for customers to verify you really aren't someone pretending to have a cr*p job.POSTMAN wrote:When we had ours done we were asked what name we wanted on them.
Chances are you can get your name changed on it.
A disgruntled customer can now look you up in the phone book and shove sh*t through your letterbox too! It is therefore insecure and until the full name is removed for your chosen Nickname they will not be shown to any customer.
