IPS nobody knows how to do it anymore

Part-Timer. One FTer complained to the DOM that I wasn`t sorting with everyone else, when I was prepping two frames on F/T hours. I replied to FTer that I`d never been asked. DOM pulled me aside to ask if I`d do it to keep the heat off him. I don`t mind mucking in, and the FTers appreciate it, but it means I`m late on prepping my own unfamiliar frame, so when the other p/ter comes in , they`re tutting because they have something to do, and they`ll be late getting out!

Over a decade at RM. I'd be useless on IPS, do more harm than good.

Apart from from bits of mucking in at xmas or whatnot, it's never been part of my duty.

It's not some specialised skill, it's just practice.

We've people in our office who have been here 10 years and have never sorted a letter, it's the same 20+ year guys who do it, we struggle when a few are off at the same time.

17 yrs and know some even longer in the tooth than me that have never ever done any ips! it's not rocket science to learn and once learnt it's easy early morning overtime when available,
we have folk fully worked up awaiting us to sort the manual out but drift around the office, some don't even know how to put oversize parcels out when loads around working who know where they need to go just need to be asked, some can't scan in tracked or even rack up empty yorks!

Why don't the COMs have EVERY full timer and EVERY part timer who's in on the IPS, part from maybe a couple to each take a van out with all the SDs?

Is the training in DOs these days "here's the frame, here's the work, get on with it"?

when i knew I'd be going on IPS full time i took pictures of the duty and street guides to spend an hour or two at home with. i'd done about half the walks at one time or another and the other half i knew nothing of. i dont see why everyone else cant do something similar if not to help themselves saving the hassle of picking up a letter and looking at the guide constantly.

Did u get paid for studying it at home?

For one thing, there's not room in our IPS areas for everyone to go on the sorting. But also it's now the general practice for one person in a pair to do the IPS, the other to prep both walks

The revision royally screwed up our IPS with dozens of roads being split between two or more deliveries, so even those who know the town well can't necessarily work out where a given letter should go. We get loads of missorts. This wouldn't be so bad were it not for the fact that getting on for 50% of our mail (letters and flats) does not come sequenced (this isn't a pop at our mail centre, it's a statement of fact - RM appear to believe their own propaganda that 85% of our letters are sequenced and so our IPS is not 'resourced' properly).

Most MCs don't have FSMs so the flats on the whole will be manually sorted. If I think some letters have a fair chance of going through an iLSM and CSS then I'll send it over to the mech.

There's someone at the office I worked in who can't grasp the IPS so they just put letters into any hole so that it looks as if they are sorting. Last time this person was checked (by another annoyed postie fed up with the missorts in his box), out of 24 letters sorted into his box only SEVEN were actually for his walk.
