And what are you going to do about greedy government tax as well.

I never use BP or Esso. I used Asda/tesco/Morrision/Sainsbury and Jet (once) for fuel.

I only use cheep petrol company's but if the truth be told so many posties still use their cars for delivery and the cost saveing to royalmail is vast and why subsidise a company with a turnover of 8.6 billion pounds!.

I always buy my petrol at my local filling station which happens to be a BP garage only because it's usually the same price as Tescos and I rather give my money to the small businessman than the big money grabbing supermarkets

The vast majority of the price of Petrol, Diesel, Autogas, etc., is Tax. it's the Government which pushed the price up so far!

We could potentially cause a price war, but that would only put the small operators out of business.

Our best bet for doing something about the fuel prices, is to repeat the protests of a few years ago. That way, it will be the Government which will be worst hit. They make massive amounts of money on Fuel Duty, and even a few weeks without it, will make a significant difference to their budget. However, I seriously doubt that we would get enough people to join in, considering the problems that it caused last time.

I watched something on the tv the other morning, they were saying the cost of the average shopping basket has gone up 24% in the past couple of years. Gas/Electric up 15%, Council Tax going up min 4%, our council is even talking about switching the street lights off at night to save money

be nice if our wages matched that % rate.

I'll bet you a Â£1.00 to a pinch of shite that the supermarket petrol/diesel fuels are supplied by the very companys -B.P. & Esso - that you will not buy from.
Yes, if it's cheaper, you're in pocket, but don't kid yourself you are boycotting them by purchasing supermarket fuel.
The Big Boys will always win one way or another.
What the hell has happened to offshore reserves of our North Sea oil....? wanna bet the big boys have cornered that for themselves?
Also remember that Northern Rock will be propped up by public money.... yes, you may have guessed that a sneaky fuel price hike is likely to be on the cards to support this troubled lame duck at our expense.
The problem with the population of this country is apathy.
What happened to protest, rolling roadblocks, protests at refinaries and marches.
How much more highway robbery can we take from a greedy government?

2007 fuel duty (as of 1 October 2007) in the United Kingdom is:

* 50.35 pence per litre for ultra-low sulphur unleaded petrol/diesel
* 53.65 pence per litre for conventional unleaded petrol
* 56.94 pence per litre for conventional diesel
* 30.35 pence per litre for bio-diesel and bio ethanol - low tax to encourage consumer conversion
* 16.49 pence per kg for gas other than natural gas (LPG)
* 13.70 pence per kg for natural gas used as road fuel.
* 9.69 pence per litre for rebated gas oil (red diesel)
* 9.29 pence per litre for rebated fuel oil

As of 1 October 2007 effective rates of duty for non-road fuels increased by 2 ppl. These rates are set to be increased by the same percentage as the main road fuels on 1 April 2008 and again on 1 April 2009.

From 1 October 2007 duty rates for unleaded petrol, leaded petrol, aviation gasoline and other heavy oil used as road fuel were increased by the same percentage as the main road fuels.

Local garages profits down my way are down between 15-20 quid a week.
The reason,i haven't had a car for a year or so.

What all car users should do is not use their cars for a while,as long as possible,then summin will be done.
Imagine millions of cars not having petrol for a while,the goverment would have a heart attack.

Petrol is cheap and that's why the roads are so full of vehicles making journeys many of which aren't essential.

Yes it is cheap! It's the tax and vat that make it expensive. How about if they abolished road tax and just add the cost to petrol duty - that way those who use the roads most pay the most. Maybe that would cut out the non-essential journeys.

The local bus cost 1.40 for 4-5 miles journey.

My car does about 40 mpg (roughly) Let say it use 1/8 a gallon for the journey - it cost about 64p each journey roughly. So why are we paying 1.40 for the bus ?

And it would cut mean those who don't renew their car tax - for example three people at my office - can't cheat the system and have to pay towards their use of the roads just like all the rest of us

They wouldn't get away with it in my area, clampers are out everyday, and the mobile ANPR moves around the main roads moving every few hours.
