I couldnt give a monkeys if the entire office phoned in sick on any given day. It has no effect on how long or hard I need to work.

I have contracted hours. I work them and I go home.

I am not forced to stay out till midnight delivering because Jimmy, John and Jack didnt show up.
Same here, managers here are often saying ‘we have a problem, 4 people have rung in, 5 are on annual leave and we all need to dig in and help out.’

No, ‘we’ don’t have a problem Mr Manager, you have a problem, we have a start and finish time. My work rate is not an issue, nor are my PDA actuals so I will continue to work at my normal work rate and then finish at my finish time.
The day is gonna come when we’re all gonna have to testify.

They know the job involves more physical attrition than most.
They know when working indoors we work in closer proximity to each other than most jobs.
They know that we have a statistically older workforce than most major employers.
They know all these things.
They just don't give a s**t.

I do not give a toss who is off sick, who is doing this that and the other
Come in - Do my job up to my allotted time - Go Home
Staffing levels are the managers problem...so tough you sort it out i could care less
As always when managers are in the s**t - we have to pull together and help out
When you are in the s**t...get lost
To hell with the lot of them

This actually came from the reps mouth a few days ago

"mental health is the new 'sore' back"
Disgusting thing to say. Haven’t we just had “mental health awareness “ week? Where was He?
Yes, it's terrible thing to say.

He wonders why some people choose to slag him off. He deserves most of it.

Sadly this attitude seems to come from the 'higher ups'.

Do you not think that there are people using or abusing “mental health” as an excuse for time off?
Every time someone (including managers) in my office gets in trouble for something, next thing you know they are off with stress.
I know people that work in the NHS, especially in GP surgeries, who will say the same thing. Mental health is the new bad back. Doctors are too afraid to reject a claim of mental health in case they do miss a genuine case and something bad happens.
There are a lot of people that are making it harder for those that have genuine problems.
This maybe not what you want to hear or believe, but unfortunately it is a fact.

I'm sure there is people using it as an excuse.

But I'm not sure a CWU rep should be saying those things, they are supposed to represent members.

By the way I've never had a day off sick since 2014, I don't want applause or praise either.

Boo hoo :left:

Maybe if most of the managers weren't such liars and manipulators as well as lazy, the hard works wouldn't be so effed off.

You really do bring it on yourselves.

Raises a lot of questions.

Why are staff really going on sick in this office if he thinks they aren't genuine?? Could it actually just be the way the office is run by the managers? Staff don't just put in grievances for nothing and many posties are not even aware that they exist!! And how on earth does he know for a fact that nobody bullies anyone in his units?? Bullying has many forms beyond yelling, belittling or aggression (even though these do go on in my office).

Most bullying I see is very subtle which is why they often go unnoticed. Such things like purposefully ignoring or not paying attention to someone, perhaps overlooking someone for overtime but very selectively asking someone else. There could be socially exclusion like not being invited to the works group in the pub; whilst a manager could be there looking after his mates instead. Making an employee constantly feel like they are the problem and making them feel inadequate and unworthy. Honestly, if you haven't got time to do the lapsing, why make a song and dance about it??
On the face of it, shareholder value is the dumbest idea in the world.

Thought I recognized the name as I read the following on workplace:

Joel Mccluskey
"Shorter days in the summer and longer in the winter is a great idea. We waste 1000s of hours a year in each unit by having the same length days in the summer as we do winter. It's just not needed.

And I'd rather have free time to enjoy in the summer than in the winter."

Lapsing has a big impact at ours small office we lapse 2 runs so we've got 4 vacancies not filled then you get one person phoning in sick then the lapsing fails so all in all your 7 people down in an office of 30.running with less people than what you need will NEVER WORK...

I'm consistently having front line staff in my office telling me they are sick to the back teeth of their colleagues abusing the sick policy, as they have to pick up the extra workload.[/i]
So he's referring to the backstabbing "runners" who end up with additional lapsing and can't get home early and moan and complain about everyone and anything that stops them from finishing 1-2 hours earlier than everyone else?

Oh don't you just love the playground antics in DO's!!!!!
