Sick Pay
So under the proposals that Simon Thompson CEO has put forward ANYONE who has 12 months service will receive There are 3 elements to this proposal:-
1. Sick pay: For colleagues with more than 12 months service, we propose a change to our
sick pay arrangements. This change would not affect the first absence in a 12-month period
but for every subsequent absence, colleagues would receive Statutory Sick Pay (SSP) for the
first week of absence.
2. Attendance standards: We propose to simplify how we manage attendance by moving
to a consistent standard of 3 absences or 12 days of absence over a 12-month period at
each stage of the attendance procedure. At Welcome Back Meetings, managers would
confirm whether the absence will/won’t count towards the attendance procedure (e.g.,
having considered the Equality Act) and once the standards have been breached, an
attendance review will be issued automatically.
3. Leaving the business through ill health – the current approach costs £30m pa in addition
to sick pay. We propose to taper down the 34-week compensation payment by 1 week for
every 1 week of contractual sick pay received. This would make it more affordable and
enable more people to benefit from the approach.
The only people who benefit from this approach is Simo Timo!

Re: Sick Pay
So am I reading it correctly in thinking that if you went off for a second period in a year and it was for 2 weeks or longer you'd be paid ssp for the first week but then normal sick pay for the rest?

That appears to be how it reads.citypostie wrote: ↑19 Jun 2022, 14:51So am I reading it correctly in thinking that if you went off for a second period in a year and it was for 2 weeks or longer you'd be paid ssp for the first week but then normal sick pay for the rest?

Re: Sick Pay
The proposal is just that these people don't understand that the work we all do and the dangers of the job you can talk to these people but get the same response of your talking hypothetically, But 7500 postmen and women got bit by a dog just doing their job and simon wants his pay increased on the pain of those postal workers who were just doing their job! What is the chance of a dog bite in a year who knows but I can bet simo timo will not get bitten!

They fully understand, they just don’t give a damn. I’m sure they are reading all of the posts on here and having a chuckle. They don’t care.k979aaa wrote: ↑19 Jun 2022, 15:27The proposal is just that these people don't understand that the work we all do and the dangers of the job you can talk to these people but get the same response of your talking hypothetically, But 7500 postmen and women got bit by a dog just doing their job and simon wants his pay increased on the pain of those postal workers who were just doing their job! Re: Sick Pay
They can pay us what they want tell us when we will work days hours times shifts but will we be as productive as before? never in all my life have I encountered such belligerence by a CEO telling us that is the way it is. My pity is for humanity if we as a nation don't destroy these economic fascistsSMS1969 wrote: ↑19 Jun 2022, 17:50They fully understand, they just don’t give a damn. The pendulum from the 70's has definitely swung as far as it is possible to go in the opposite direction.
Like you I fear for my children and grandchildren.
This I feel is only the beginning, they will not be happy until we go back two centuries and we all start doffing our caps.

Re: Sick Pay
What a complete tw##!
Just take the present Covid situation where a person maybe reinfected 2-3 times a year.
With these terms you could be out of a job within one year.
Also the 34week sick pay off for the long term sick would be definitely gone.

Re: Sick Pay
Imagine walking for 4 hours a day, 5 days a week. Up steps, up inclines. Lifting, twisting, turning. You'd be surprised how much of your body you use to simply put a letter through some of these letterboxes. The stiff postboxes cause you to strain your body as you push the letterbox open and push the mail through with force. Who decided brass letterboxes were a good idea. Paper v brass doesn't work. Then you have the letterboxes at the bottom of the door which saps the energy from your whole body and sometimes they are made from brass.
They should offer 3 hour walks, maybe mixed in with extra parcels. Less people will be decrepit.

Re: Sick Pay
4 hours? More like 5 for me most days- although my office does a 9 day fortnight (4 days one week 5 the next) so walks are longer.norris9 wrote: ↑20 Jun 2022, 08:11Imagine walking for 4 hours a day, 5 days a week.
