Royal Mail's chief executive officer Simon Thompson got an overall annual pay and perks package worth £753,000. The deal included a 'short-term' bonus of £142,000
The boss of Royal Mail has been handed a bonus of more than £140,000 despite the company facing an investigation over missed delivery targets.
The company’s annual report revealed chief executive officer Simon Thompson got an overall annual pay and perks package worth £753,000.
The deal included a “short-term” bonus of £142,000.
But the bumper payout comes after industry regulator Ofcom said it would have to look in to Royal Mail’s failure to meet its delivery targets over the past year.
Royal Mail admitted that almost a fifth of first-class deliveries arrived at least a day late in the year to April. The company blamed the coronavirus crisis and staff absences.
The annual report also revealed that Mr Thompson’s basic salary had risen by 3.6% to £543,750 from this April.
However, the Communication Workers Union this week warned of a possible strike by more than 115,000 Royal Mail workers over a 2% pay rise offer for most of the firm’s staff.
Royal Mail insists that its pay deal for workers is worth up to 5.5% once other elements, including a bonus, are included.
The company stressed that Mr Thompson’s annual bonus did not include any payout for delivery targets, but was a reward for other objectives being achieved.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

A couple of questions does Simon work Sundays for that modest salary and when he's on the golf course do we bank the hours for the Xmas pressure period?

Share price has never been so low, the buck stops with him for that and he gets a 142 grand bonus? You couldn't make it up!

One rule for us and a completely different rule book for him. How one man can be worth more than 30 hard working postie's is just completely beyond me!

The share price actually have already been half its current value but it's irrelevant. The real deal is the serious attack on our t/c's. Obviously the timing of awarding Simon with £142k short term bonus just adds to the injury. I mean nobody should need any convincing that Simon doesn't care one bit about his people. In fact his attitude is so irritating. The way he speaks to us and phrases he uses are hard to digest, it's so bad that I can't watch his video speeches I have to read the script because I wouldn't be able to make to the end. I mean he surely knows 2% pay rise, imposed on us on top of that means nothing these days. It is less than a £10 a week before tax. The way he spins it like they are taking unprecedented steps to award our pay rise in advance so people can receive it all earlier and in a lump sum. He know it will appeal to the struggling people, he cynically uses it to his advantage in the hope of averting the IA. Despicable.

Hilariously tragic.
“Shorts,in this weather?!”
“If they’re bills I don’t want ‘em!”
“What’s she been ordering now?”

He's offered us 2%, but happily taken 3.6% and £140,000 for himself.
How much is this guy trying to annoy his employees? are we being trolled?
