Health and safety at work act……
You are responsible for the health and safety of YOURSELF and others. I think it’s an unreasonable request putting MY health and safety at risk. So I will continue NOT handing it over. Managers don’t give a hoot about us anyway. Customers also still don’t want to sign it either.

I haven't had a single customer display even the slightest reticence about signing.

And we were told if they don't want to sign for something it was to be RTS - refused.

Again managers (if it was a manager) talking rubbish, nowhere in the updated SOP does it say
if they don't want to sign for something is it to be RTS (unless they are actually refusing because they don't want the item).

Could not agree more

The sender of that item has paid a premium to get a signature on delivery from the recipient, not the delivery operator. For the delivery operator to now sign for that item without just cause is a breach of contract. Especially now the item is to be returned as refused and not signed by that delivery person on the recipients behalf. Otherwise it open up Royal MAIL with liability if it is ever alleged the item was never received

No it isn't.
It could potentially be a conduct issue but given the vagueness of the SOP and the lack of joined up management over the issue it's doubtful even that would stick.

That's almost as bad as not attaining a signature.
The correct procedure which has always been the case is that the item is delivered without signature and the PDA is signed DWS.

Once again you are in error

A signature on delivery is a premium product outside of the USO.

The retailer has stipulated a signature on delivery which the customer has paid for as a contractual obligation incorporated into the total cost of the item. The retailer therefore has a contract which Royal Mail implements the stipulations of the retailer being the carrier under that contract

What's with the "once again" s**t?
Are you trying to gaslight me?

Royal Mail's general terms and conditions.
If it is a requirement of the Product, we will make reasonable efforts to get a signature from the person receiving the Item or Items when we deliver it to the relevant address or (subject to clause 2.12) leave it with a neighbour.
We recognise some recipients may not be comfortable signing so the SOP has been updated to include covid alongside disability as reason to use Deliver Without Signature (D W S). We also recognise that some delivery colleagues would like refresher training regarding signature capture and closely associated dog safety AVOID processes.

Who said anything about gaslighting?

Totally acceptable to leave with a neighbour as long as a signature is received and a card dropped through the door. The retailers agrees that as a contractual obligation with Royal Mail

It is also acceptable to sign a PDA with a recipient who is disabled with NSR

But those arguments are moot as we are debating signature on delivery and Covid

if the guy/gaL delivering it says to the recipient "am i ok to scribble on the pda for you" I'd say every single person wouldn't be bothered seeing that it isn't a true liked signature anyway, the gps lock will back up any issues too
i always do this unless in a shared house or a dodgy looking letter, nobody gives a toss if it's a shopping order

I agree but .....managers rarely understand correct procedure and just make s**t up. Imagine if they had to read stuff, they would never get anything done.
A bit off topic but I was also informed by the justsayit team that any Jewish person who refused to sign for an item on Saturday on religious grounds was to have their item RTS and during my training (by a bona fide trainer not a WPC) I was told blind people were to be 739d if they couldn't sign for an item.

The problem I can see with a 739 is how is a blind person supposed to read the card let alone know it is a missed delivery card?

Realise now blind people have things like an OCR but it is still putting a blind person at a disadvantage over an able bodied person

These things were no issue when you had a regular delivery person but now?

Such things are normally covered with a delivery instruction card within the redirection folder with people who are disabled and specific delivery instructions as a point of reference

I am glad you asked that question.
They must have a home help or a relative that comes in and they will be able to read it.

On a related note when was the last time anyone asked you for a signature in any context?

Is it even a thing now?
Apart from us obviously...
