Re: Later starts & Sunday working for everyone
Space phoenix just likes trying to wind delivery staff up by talking absolute crap most of the time and if that doesn't work he will say " well it will all go manual because we won't have time to sequence it"
He honestly thinks that delivery staff have to do anything royal mail say but mail centres can't change because they have no staff and "they'll have to hire more casuals" I think he's in for a rude awakening because over the years deliveries have taken the maximum crap but if they get their way deliveries will suffer but all them cushy jobs in mail centres will suffer big time and alot of them will be pushed onto deliveries that will break them within a few months.
Yea sp I know you have hardly any people on shifts, it's all agency and if they change anything the dispatches will go back by hours meaning 11-7 in deliveries or later and all the mech will be sent as manual

Overtime all our jobs in MCs will be gone with more automation. As more gets automated, RM will have more and more data each day as to what mail each delivery point has. Eventually it'll reach a point where they have enough data daily to vary the walks or even dynamically generate them.citypostie wrote: ↑11 Jun 2022, 21:13Space phoenix just likes trying to wind delivery staff up by talking absolute crap most of the time and if that doesn't work he will say " well it will all go manual because we won't have time to sequence it"

Before we all get bumped to deliveries RM will more likely have started mass use of casuals/agency in DOs. Overtime I think just about all jobs in both MCs and DOs will get replaced with the use of casuals/agency.
We barely have enough mech staff as it is so if the Sunday delivery thing gets brought in then we won't have enough mech staff to sequence all the mail. Probably only a matter of time before they start taking mech staff off the mech to go onto parcels and Tracked.

Re: Later starts & Sunday working for everyone
Still dont believe letters will be delivered on Sundays. Letters will eventually be dropped from atleast one other day.
Sundays are here to stay for parcels
I believe UPS use interval flights. This is not proof but an assumption based on the tracking from sending via USP. Only superman or a plane can explain the scanned times between two faraway points.

Oh sweetie we do love you. Did you miss the bit were Supersi said delivery staff need to work Sundays because we to GET RID of all agency?SpacePhoenix wrote: ↑11 Jun 2022, 22:03Overtime all our jobs in MCs will be gone with more automation. And if delivery end up working Sundays they wont be taking your people off mech as it will be parcels only so there wont be letters to process on a Saturday night anyway. Like us in delivery you will just have your rotas changed so that you wwork 1 in 7 Saturday nights for example.
I doubt the planes will get entirely removed, It will probably be a reduction so that only parcels go on them from one end of the country to the other then rail will be used for the remaining journey along with the letters which i belive will go to week days only and the uso will change so 1st class is within 48 hours and 2nd class is 72hours.

Re: Later starts & Sunday working for everyone
We don't have too many actual RM staff so to have staff for Saturday night working they're either going to have to have less staff each shift with a greater chance of mech staff having to be taken off the mech to sort packets and Tracked or we get even more agency in2yearpostie wrote: ↑12 Jun 2022, 07:48Oh sweetie we do love you. Can't see that cutting down on the amount of planes needed as parcels take up much more space on the plan than letters do. If they did change 1st and 2nd class like that, my gut feeling is that they'd have all MCs and DOs on 09:00-17:00 with the first dispatches form MCs to DOs not going out probbaly till around 08:00 ish as it'd give RM massive savings on shift allowances all round2yearpostie wrote: ↑12 Jun 2022, 07:48I doubt the planes will get entirely removed, It will probably be a reduction so that only parcels go on them from one end of the country to the other then rail will be used for the remaining journey along with the letters which i belive will go to week days only and the uso will change so 1st class is within 48 hours and 2nd class is 72hours.

Re: Later starts & Sunday working for everyone
SM has already suggested on WP the business is looking at using the bar coded stamps for Sunday deliveries for birthday cards etc as a "premium" product, I assume taking on Moonpig, it's unlikely to be a big scale but Mother's/Father's day could be interesting if they ever do roll it out.Route1 wrote: ↑11 Jun 2022, 23:13Still dont believe letters will be delivered on Sundays. Re: Later starts & Sunday working for everyone
I thought SM wanted to cut agency staff as they were 50% less efficient than regular OPG's, they must cost RM over double the cost per parcel delivery once the agency co fees are added to the rate p/h.ted_e_bear wrote: ↑11 Jun 2022, 22:11SpacePhoenix wrote: ↑11 Jun 2022, 22:03Overtime all our jobs in MCs will be gone with more automation. Re: Later starts & Sunday working for everyone
If SM wants to cut down on the use of agency staff then we need to take on a lot of new staff. With the Sunday delivery thing it will need at least 3/4 of the normally staffing levels, depending on how busy it ends up being

Think you'll find if royal mail decide Sunday is a working day then you're gonna be the one that has to suck it up. So you're telling me you're that religious that you don't do anything other than go to church on a Sunday? Never been to the cinema, theatre, supermarket, a and e, watched any professional sport, had to call the police, put fuel in your car? If you have done any of these, how come you think it's ok for all them to have to work Sunday?

Re: Later starts & Sunday working for everyone
Changing Sunday working from voluntary to compulsory would require a variation of contract for the vast majority of us. Royal Mail cannot just tell you to suck it up.
That variation can be done with or without agreement but doing it without agreement is legally very dangerous and could easily result in constructive dismissal.
Obviously as we've all seen with P&O it's possible to terminate an employee’s contract and re-employ on new terms and conditions but this is a nuclear option and wouldn't be practical in our case.
The only way they are getting this through is through an agreement with the union but personally I believe it is so toxic for both sides it'll never happen.

Re: Later starts & Sunday working for everyone
It happened years ago for the CWU-represented Engineering grades in BT.
All it takes is management to offer a nice pay rise and/or lump sum to everyone (whether affected or not) as part of the deal to normalise Sunday working, and as there's always enough sheep to vote for anything which benefits them financially, the deal will be easily implemented.

Re: Later starts & Sunday working for everyone
It will get voted in or out by DO staff as there's way more delivery staff than MC staff. Don't know if Martin Walsh has a breakdown of total staff numbers by office type with separate figures for collections, distribution and processing in MCsTman wrote: ↑12 Jun 2022, 23:05It happened years ago for the CWU-represented Engineering grades in BT.
