In winter youd be going out on delivery at around 3pm, you know just when its starting to go dark, the kids are coming out of school and the buisnesses are starting to wrap up for the day.

Half my delivery is businesses that close all close about 4.30 to 5pm , I know what I'd be leaving to deliver last each day and it wouldn't be the residential bit. I suppose they could all pay for timed deliveries before the close if that's something royal mail still offer

It will be phased in and probably be 9-4ish and then 1 in 4 weekends or something which we unfortunately have to get used too. It’s not great for children and people who want to finish by 2 but they want parcels delivered next day when you order up until midnight the previous day, they don’t care about letters anymore I’m afraid and see them as more if a hindrance hence why they keep pushing the price up for letters and not parcels. I imagine in next 5 years it will be letters and leaflets 3 days a week and then just parcels and tracked letters 7 days. I’m not sure how the dispute will ens but they seem determined to hav a big shake up

Where has this myth come from that everyone is ordering stuff late at night and is desperate for it to be delivered the next day ? Think about your own buying habits, are you really bothered about the vast majority of the things you order being here tomorrow ? I'm more interested in free delivery than fast delivery.

Doesn't matter when people are ordering stuff. Say the current cut-off is 21:00 and the new proposed cut-off is 00:01 (don't know what the current and proposed times are). That's potentially an extra 3 hours that a big retailer can be processing and dispatching orders for, which will get to their customer the next day.

Even Amazon is rowing back from next day delivery due to cost, environmental impact and logistics.

I can see this becoming the norm rather than the desperate rush for next day especially as environmental incentives/penalties are introduced

Prime is often a two day delivery guarantee now.

As usual we are behind the curve.

My point is, the vast majority aren't bothered about it coming next day.

If RM ended up going to a two day delivery for everything apart from SDs then it could end up with all MCs and DOs being 09:00-17:00

Probably even less bothered about any "environmental impact" caused by how it's delivered either.
