Streaming mail
Can anyone direct me to the latest rules around streaming mail please. As in being told to take only where you are going. Thanks

Re: Streaming mail
Ask your manager to put the request to stream mail in writing.
Effectively he is asking that you wilfully delay mail, which used to be a sackable offence!

Re: Streaming mail
I don't get that- do you mean you're being told to take mail only where you are also going to deliver a packet?

Re: Streaming mail
More likely its a bulk posting and been told to only deliver it to where already going with other mailRoboPostie wrote: ↑08 Jun 2022, 12:07I don't get that- do you mean you're being told to take mail only where you are also going to deliver a packet?
If you tolerate this, then your paid break will be next

Re: Streaming mail
That sounds fine- it's not a policy at our place, but there are posties who do it by choice. I don't bother as at my frame a lot of the time it's 2 addresses per slot, so if you took one D2D you'd need to write the house number on the remaining one.Acca Dacca wrote: ↑08 Jun 2022, 13:25More likely its a bulk posting and been told to only deliver it to where already going with other mail

Also LTB 078/17 - Royal Mail & CWU National Joint Statement Avoiding Delay (Commit to Deliver) and Reporting StandardsDate: Friday, 5 November, 2010, 17:24
Dear Colleagues,
During the recent ADR briefings the subject of ‘Streaming or Skimming’ of mail was raised by a number of reps and subsequently raised by me at the NDG. Royal Mail’s response was that they were unaware of it and it was only anecdotal, they needed firmer ‘evidence’. Therefore could reps please supply the dept via email with any instances where this has occurred or is occurring, naming the office and the manager of the office and how frequently this has occurred, and how the streaming actually occurs. In some cases the decision of what not to deliver has been left to OPGs which in itself is unacceptable. In other instances it forms part of absorption/lapsing where an OPG is taken off a delivery to allow others to absorb the delivery by only delivering the 1c and leaving everything else in the frame.
Your urgent attention and response to this request would be greatly appreciated.
Please send your replies to bgibson@cwu.org no later than Thursday 11th November 2010. POSTMAN EDIT:IGNORE DATES:KEEP SENDING!
Thanks

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

Re: Streaming mail
If mail is going to fail, for whatever reason, then someone has to make the decision as to what should fail.
That is above our pay grade.
The unit rep should be ensuring that all failures are properly communicated.

Re: Streaming mail
On a very light day which we would still have trouble completing, we are told to take it all out & any single one house letters if it looks like junk, miss it & chuck it back in the frame next day.

Insanely busy today we was told to take it out and bring back what we couldn't do basically another form of streaming in all but name!
We brought 2 big loops back plus a few pkts.

Re: Streaming mail
This goes on all the time.
Told to take out the whole frame and bring it back.
You have to ring the manager at 12 noon but the DOM has gone home by cut off time, leave it bundled on the bench and rethrow it off next day
DOM has earlier in the day said the office is clear but then loads cut off and bring mail back and higher up haven't got a scooby doo what's going on

Re: Streaming mail
Of course, it takes time to box in the mail again the next day, so the cycle of failure repeats itself. This is a case of a DOM wilfully delaying the mail, in order to save their neck.

Common practice, can't complete? Delivery the important stuff!
So along comes the revision to sort it all out....duties worse than before.....and lapsing returns....

Re: Streaming mail
Some posties tend to do it for the D2Ds. Put them all in and just take where you are going.
Not for mail though, because if you're off tomorrow you're going to leave more of the bulk stuff; and if you're not off tomorrow then you might be tempted to pull a sickie.
On the face of it, shareholder value is the dumbest idea in the world.

Re: Streaming mail
This hit our office last week. New business decision apparently. Have to take lapsing and stream our own rounds if we can't complete or we can book the overtime. Is this happening in other offices?

Re: Streaming mail
In the past I have been told to just take 1st class & anything with it, time it takes to sort it out you might as well pull the lot out & skip any single 2nd class & bring it back for the cobble box in the back of the van, If we get annualised hours this will most likely become the norm
