Re: Letters on a Sunday - get ready
RM wish to reduce letter deliveries to 5 days ASAP. Simon talking on Workplace that some European countries offer 3 day letter services
On 2022 slides presentation it was noted USO workshops stated customers would be happy with 5 day service.
This would boost profits and also have huge impact on staff numbers in Delivery.

The priority letters would have to be Tracked as we won't have any staff available to run the SD locker on a Saturday night.CharlesG wrote: ↑05 Jun 2022, 20:052F7119FD-5720-4D69-BD4D-7F680FC48239.jpeg

The low CO2 does suggest that there's a strong possibility of RM actually axing Skynet

You had someone man the SD Locker on Friday Night into Saturday Morning this week at your Mail Centre or else there would've been no one there to despatch to the Drivers going to DO's so why not on a Saturday Night. HWDC has a Saturday Night Shift so why not other MC'sSpacePhoenix wrote: ↑05 Jun 2022, 20:21The priority letters would have to be Tracked as we won't have any staff available to run the SD locker on a Saturday night.CharlesG wrote: ↑05 Jun 2022, 20:052F7119FD-5720-4D69-BD4D-7F680FC48239.jpeg

1) One of the volunteers was SD locker trained
2) A manager worked the SD locker, not necessarily scanning anything
3) The SDs didn't go out
The SDs that went out Friday night will be what was processed on Wednesday night/Thursday morning

Why wouldn't a manager scan Specials it's not exactly rocket science being able to scan them as despatched. The point you seem to struggle to understand is just because MC staff currently have a certain pattern of shifts means they will stay as they are in the future. What the business wants will effect this and may well be brought in via executive actionSpacePhoenix wrote: ↑05 Jun 2022, 21:56It was volunteers only Friday night so there was three possible outcomes:denhamhoop wrote: ↑05 Jun 2022, 21:07You had someone man the SD Locker on Friday Night into Saturday Morning this week at your Mail Centre or else there would've been no one there to despatch to the Drivers going to DO's so why not on a Saturday Night. Re: Letters on a Sunday - get ready
Seventy companies across the UK are set to take part in a pilot of a four-day week starting today.
The trial, which will include more than 3,300 workers, is the biggest ever of its kind to date anywhere in the world.
The pilot will see no loss in pay for employees working one fewer day a week. Instead they will be asked to maintain 100% productivity for 80% of their time.
From a local fish and chip shop to large corporate companies, a wide range of businesses are taking part.
Interesting times ahead. We are going full steam ahead with 7 days service whilst many other sectors are looking to cut it back to 4.
Is 4 on 4 off they way to do it?

Not all managers will have access to the SD locker and the batteries for the STAR guns are knackered.denhamhoop wrote: ↑06 Jun 2022, 08:55Why wouldn't a manager scan Specials it's not exactly rocket science being able to scan them as despatched.
We're short on staff as it is so I don't know where they propose we get the staff from. SP delivery are short on staff on Sundays, thats why they are trying to force the issue with the union so all delivery do some sundays, They will do the same with Mc staff staff and force you to change your attendance patterns like it or not.SpacePhoenix wrote: ↑06 Jun 2022, 10:16Not all managers will have access to the SD locker and the batteries for the STAR guns are knackered.denhamhoop wrote: ↑06 Jun 2022, 08:55Why wouldn't a manager scan Specials it's not exactly rocket science being able to scan them as despatched.

Whenever 4 on 4 off is brought up, someone will ask how its possible other than to increase delivery length, as we’ll be doing longer days and theres less indoor work etcCucumber wrote: ↑06 Jun 2022, 09:22Seventy companies across the UK are set to take part in a pilot of a four-day week starting today.

But surely the companies taking part in this pilot study wont be expecting their staff to work longer days on the 4 days they work? Isnt the whole point of this that its thought workers can be more productive or equally as productive working 4 days instead of 5?
Obviously there are differences between what we do and for example many office jobs.
Not sure if ive made any sense with what im saying, not much sleep last night

I think one of the main obstacles of 4 on 4 off is like you said, the need for roughly 9 hours of work per day. That would be a huge challenge for offices that are majority staffed by full time members.
The pilot study the begins today is focussing on compressing the 5th days work across days 1-4, so not only are people only working 4 days, they only need to work their standard hours on those 4 days - how that pans out will be interesting.

Re: Letters on a Sunday - get ready
Bit like our shorter working week agreement. IF they could get it down to 32 hours for full time pay, it would only be an 8 hr day over 4 days which is probably possible for a full timer, 2hr 30 for IP and prep, 5hr 30 delivery span.Cucumber wrote: ↑06 Jun 2022, 16:29mjd24 wrote: ↑06 Jun 2022, 16:16Whenever 4 on 4 off is brought up, someone will ask how its possible other than to increase delivery length, as we’ll be doing longer days and theres less indoor work etcCucumber wrote: ↑06 Jun 2022, 09:22Seventy companies across the UK are set to take part in a pilot of a four-day week starting today.

We'll end up with some days when the mech only gets walk sorted where some of the mech staff won't be available if the attendance patterns get changed. We get some weeks when we don't have any spare mech staff, without taking mech trained staff from the SD locker.2yearpostie wrote: ↑06 Jun 2022, 13:24SP delivery are short on staff on Sundays, thats why they are trying to force the issue with the union so all delivery do some sundays, They will do the same with Mc staff staff and force you to change your attendance patterns like it or not.SpacePhoenix wrote: ↑06 Jun 2022, 10:16Not all managers will have access to the SD locker and the batteries for the STAR guns are knackered.denhamhoop wrote: ↑06 Jun 2022, 08:55Why wouldn't a manager scan Specials it's not exactly rocket science being able to scan them as despatched.

We'd also get some days when we'd end up failing the SDs as we only got a couple of spare SD locker trained staff as it is.
