Full time MC staff: (paid pro rata for P/T)

Processing allowance (approx £10 per wk)

Defined area supplement (approx £8.50 per wk)

That’s what we all get in MC weekly

Then TPM (£6 per shift) if on mech (min 1hr to qualify)

The top two allowances will almost certainly be on the table, that is ALOT of money paid out weekly to thousands of MC staff.

Fwiw i doubt TPM will be going anywhere.

Don’t know about Deliveries but i imagine you all have some similar juicy allowances and supplements that are ripe for chop?

The game here is to take away approx £20 p/wk in allowances and give us about 3.5% payrise (12p p/hr = £6 p/wk!)

Of course there’ll be a lump sum cash sweetner to “buy out” these allowances which alot of shortsighted folk will sell for about £1000 cash.

And thus endeth your allowances. :cuppa
What is defined area supplement certainly dont get in nimc.

I have absolutely no idea!
I assume its for working in a (defined area) i.e a certain MC area of operations like Tracked / SD locker etc
It seems non sensical but we trouser it every week anyway.
I’ll photo my payslip and show you so you can chase it up!

(i note you say NI? it may be a british thing? should be same for everyone tho!

Do you get the Processing allowance? circa £10 p/wk

It's something to do with locations where RM find it hard to recruit staff

Defined area supplement was to attract people to work for RM in areas where they struggled to get and retain staff. Each area attracted it's own supplement

Ah ha! thank you that is interesting.
(no shortage where i’am, there are about 400 casuals on the books begging for a shift!

They will almost certainly be after this particular allowance!

LTB 268/22 – Royal Mail – Change Proposals

3. Allowances

Our pay structure is hugely complex, with many tiers and layers that work for some but
not for most. There are 32 different allowances including functional supplements,
geographic payments, historic payments for skills and change. We propose creating a
simpler, fairer, and common-sense approach by:

1. Consolidating functional supplements into base pay
2. Buying out some legacy allowances
3. Keeping allowances for shift work, leadership coverage, workplace coaches, bank
holidays and Scottish Islands
4. Keeping London weighting but consolidating it from 2 allowances into 1
5. Phasing down Sunday premium payments as we move towards a 24/7 operation

We believe this approach will be better, simpler and fairer for our people. Consolidation of
functional supplements into base pay means they will become pensionable. Cash buy out
of allowances will provide lump sums to individuals at a time when they are being
squeezed by the cost of living. It will provide a simpler and more consistent approach to
pay which is fairer for the majority.

We also want to discuss some principles on how buy out could work. Including
a. Principles for any buy out, glide path or consolidation to pay
b. Timeframes for payment
c. Broad rules (e.g., claw back)

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

Like borrowing £500 and paying it back for the rest of your working life.

My grandad had a TV from radio rentals, he paid £4 a week for it. He had that TV for 22 years until he died, but it's only £4 a week he kept telling me....

The scariest thing is there are hundreds working for royal mail whose first thought was - That's alright, I'll take extra money splash it on school holidays for kids or whatever, they don't realise they will be technically paying for it for the rest of their working life. Look at the wording, they are using living costs crisis to their advantage and they present it like they do it to help us with the increased costs. Absolute con I just hope people will see through it.
