I would've thought if it is in your break time there is no way they can stop you going out to get food. This firm is just like being at school, can't go out during your break, put your hand up to go to the loo, they will want us to be doing homework soon and sending reports to our parents.

So keep on moving, moving, moving your feet

Whether or not it`s in your break time I suspect their answer will be you`re not insured off the premises in work time (unless of course you`re on delivery). They`re just being twats because you`ll find most offices have a quota of people that go out in break time whether it`s for something to eat or even, dare I say it, the pub!

Better not send a report to my dad, he's an ex-miner. He'll be demanding that I go on strike again! To say he's pro-union would be an understatement.k66yla wrote:I would've thought if it is in your break time there is no way they can stop you going out to get food. You're right though, it does remind me of school, at least what I remember of school (it's been over 20 years since I left), and the managers are like teachers that can't control the class without using the cane or belt. Screaming and shouting didn't work then or now.
Did anyone try and see how quickly they could break a teacher? A class in the year above me had the record of 2 days.

They will quote fire regulations as the excuse, inform your manager your going off the premises for a short time and will inform them upon your return.
If they won't allow you to contact health and saftey exec as they are denying you the opportunity to eat, H & S are already peed off at RM regarding their ignoring of h&s regulations

doesn't appear to be an issue at our place. judging by the amount of pizza boxes lying around in a morning i presume everyone on nights at least rings up for a delivery. incidently. is it just me that thinks pizza's should be banned ? smelly disgusting things that they are.!
watch out. there may be a dom about

That's a Spanish practice innit? Certainly something you never see in British industry ( when was the last time a director or owner or MP took a pay rise that was a cash equivelent to his average workers pay rise? )Sandyman wrote:The screws at our place always get their breakfasts outside of the premises. Can't see them leading by example.

The "signing in & out" procedure is now not needed by the fire brigade because it is exactly what is stated.
In the past people used to sign in but "pop out" for whatever. The fire service had risked themselves
looking for people in a building that was not even there.
If there is a fire what H&S exec demand is a fire drill meeting place and a "roll call" to take place there.
When last was your fire drill in your office?
Should be twice a year.

They know when our breaks are anyway!
The Roll Call is done by a Manager. So they know who is due to be on a break anyway. Besides, we have little boxes on our Duty Sheets to tick in and out, if we leave the premises during our breaks.
As for Fire Drills: we very rarely have them. They test the Sensors every day, but I think it's close to two years now, since we last had a Drill!
Borderscot, I wouldn't count on HSE to do anything! I contacted them several months ago, about a series of incidents where I work. My H&S Rep told me in advance that he was having no luck getting them to do FA about it, and that I would be wasting my time. And he was right! They took all the details off me, and did..... NOTHING WHATSOEVER!
Thier regular excuse, is that they don't have enough people to investigate. If so WHY DON'T THEY HIRE SOME!?!?!?!?
Luckily, the situation has subsequently been sorted out. No thanks to HSE! Thank God for good H&S Reps!

This is what roll call is like at my office http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=3P5wcCuNZbY and reading down the comments it seems The Fire Brigade are suffering the same problems as us
