Probably one allowance that will gte axed at some point is the ex PHG one. There can't be that many people who get that now
There won't be many, and mainly in mail centres. And will be people with 30+ years service.
Probably no more than a couple of dozen at the absolute most across all shifts locally

Guy in our office gets an allowance for driving a mini bus. There's a few 20+ years guys with driving allowances. It's a strange red herring I believe the whole allowance thing. They won't touch delivery supplement or the defined area one so it's all a bit smoke and mirrors. It's just thrown in so they can back down on it later to save another 1% on the final pay offer.

Mrs Brown...
We are required to discuss our proposals with the CWU and look forward to their input. However I can confirm this is about discussing allowances that no longer make sense or are unfair and inconsistent. On this basis we are definitely not looking to remove the delivery supplement in our ideas. The quicker we can discuss our ideas with the CWU the better.

Mark 'I'm a professor don't you know' Briers

There are a number of legacy allowances that are paid to some employees. These are all based upon previous award pay award negotiations where historical payment was changed/removed.
And so the allowance was introduced to compensate for this

Some of these allowances have been paid since the way forward agreements in 2000 some 22 years ago, and none of these allowances have been available to new joiners since 2010

Examples of the legacy allowances include PHG allowance, the removal of previous tier 2 postie job level, driving allowance, network 2007, way forward allowance, time bonus, interim consolidated scheme ICS supplement and productivity bonus scheme the PBS bonus.

So these are some examples of the types of allowances that are available, I mean, half being available to certain parts of our workforce, in line with agreements that have been formed over the many years, you know since the way forward agreements in 2000

The PHG allowance gets mentioned every pay deal..
I think it's days are numbered.
It is however a pensionable allowance and surely that has to be taken into consideration.
I wonder if they will go after the Reserve Rights night allowance too?

All these allowances being removed is just sour grapes from Royal Mail

Those that have worked for the business for some length of time would probably feel that they have earned it and its not really their fault that the company scrapped it for newer employees to save a few pennies.

Is there no such thing as rewarding loyalty anymore??
On the face of it, shareholder value is the dumbest idea in the world.

Nope

They have removed "gift" element from 20yr long service award
I assume 30yr and 40yr will follow in future.

Loyalty means nothing

If you're a temp I assume you've no real concerns about getting caught as they'll just move on to the next temp job, somebody with a few years service won't risk getting caught as they'd have to explain to their new employers why they are looking for a new job?

Honestly, scrap all the allowances and the overtime pay, add 12% to everyones wage and instruct us to cut off at contracted hours, thats everyones finances under control and predictable, No idea what your doing with the left over work though? Maybe a 6 monthly slush fund to clear it?

This is exactly what Moya Greene was saying in 2017 but RM are not saying exactly what allowances they want to cut I think its the reserved ones like Driving allowance (small vans), Ex PHG money I think people on an early shift allowance pre 2008/09 still get it (I may be wrong) part of the agreements that took them was we kept them for life and we made alot of savings with those agreements. Maybe the small van allowance for van drivers now should be brought back if I am honest. The problems with people like Zareena and Simon Thompson they need to do their homework first

Full time MC staff: (paid pro rata for P/T)

Processing allowance (approx £10 per wk)

Defined area supplement (approx £8.50 per wk)

That’s what we all get in MC weekly

Then TPM (£6 per shift) if on mech (min 1hr to qualify)

The top two allowances will almost certainly be on the table, that is ALOT of money paid out weekly to thousands of MC staff.

Fwiw i doubt TPM will be going anywhere.

Don’t know about Deliveries but i imagine you all have some similar juicy allowances and supplements that are ripe for chop?

The game here is to take away approx £20 p/wk in allowances and give us about 3.5% payrise (12p p/hr = £6 p/wk!)

Of course there’ll be a lump sum cash sweetner to “buy out” these allowances which alot of shortsighted folk will sell for about £1000 cash.

And thus endeth your allowances. :cuppa
