Agency?, p and o us and get new people on 0 hour contract?. Get rid of mail completely give up the uso and just become owner driver parcel company?
They struggle to get the workforce now. They'd never recruit enough staff to be owner drivers on minimum wage working saturdays and sundays. Their network is too big to fulfil this.

There are more jobs than people who want them. In our latest recruitment campaign they took on 3.1 didn't even turn up on first day, 1 lasted a week and 1 is still here. There is no huge queue of people agency or otherwise who want to do our job. Especially with 7-7 potential working hours and Sunday working already part of the new entrants contract.
Please let's just ballot and get the share price down to £2 and then the shareholders will sack the board and we can carry on doing what we do.
same in our office lasted a couple of days then packed it in. even experienced postmen are now leaving for other jobs that pay similar or better pay and not so hard on the body. Tbh would not recommend this job to anyone now.
The people who run Royal Mail clearly have no idea how physically demanding the job is. This could be their downfall. If they are thinking 'we can just get them to work longer hours in the winter by changing their contracts, we can push them harder here, there and everywhere'.....

Posties will be out the door at double the rates they leave at currently.

Anyone that wants to do this job..... your legs will be constantly aching, and by constantly - I mean it. And money can't put a price on living in constant pain, mild or not.

Most if not all the managers above DOM/Shift/MCM level won't have worked their way up the ranks so won't have any experience of what it's like on the shop floor in any type of office

Even line managers and DOMs who were once posties maybe 5-10+ years ago have no real idea what deliveries are like now. Not only are we walking much further than ever, this is combined with further physical stresses involved with the constant reaching into our bags to retrieve packets and PDA. Not to mention all the extras such as collections etc

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

Same with bending down to put a parcel on the doorstep to take the photo (we are all doing it, right?). I estimate I’m taking about 30 pictures a day, that’s 30 extra bending my knees, it soon adds up.
The day is gonna come when we’re all gonna have to testify.

Yep, that’s always fun. To be honest with most I just take the picture then say ‘I’ll leave it there for you’ and let them take the hint and pick it up themselves.

Same here, unless they appear elderly or infirm I leave it for them to pick it up.

Yes let's get back on track, wonder how much they actually pay out and what the breakdown is, obviously workplace coach an easy option to go for, some at our place also get £6 weekly driving allowance.

Presumably there's some really outdated ones still being paid, pretty sure some posties used to get 2 quid or something a week for washing their bikes.

We used to have a bloke who fixed punctures etc. He got an allowance for that. I bet some are still getting that as grandfather right, I'm guessing it's things like that they are talking about not the delivery supplement they'd never be able to sell that we aren't that stupid.....are we?

So if

1. Royal Mail don't want to take the old allowances away, and
2. Ensure that everyone is on the same pay for the same work

Why don't they just upgrade those allowances to the existing employees so that they are all parity

For example, if you have a Workplace coach receiving an extra £38 per week. Why can't they just give everyone else a similar pay increase every week as well? After all, I've trained more guys up than our current WPC
More likely that the people who are in receipt of such allowances would be expected to forgo a payrise until everyone else caught up.

There won't be many, and mainly in mail centres. And will be people with 30+ years service.
