Letters (mech and manual) and flats are down, can tell from us needing less staff to sort them. Some of the mech batches on wave 1 have been WAY down recently

New Uniform is only going to be worth it if the clothing is more durable and cheaper. Is it?
I have not noticed any drop in mail. If anything it's got worse and there are good reasons as to why it would have got worse as people are working from home - documents coming to their home addresses instead of the office?.... and also online orders are going up therefore more people sign up to receive junk mail.
When they say letters are down, what does this actually mean? Are they just including 1 or 2 types of letter and not everything such as junk mail? Is this just the mech they refer to?
I've only noticed the second wave of non-sequenced get noticeably less over the past five years. First wave of barely sequenced still one to two, sometimes three, perstops' worth.
And I swear I'm making more trips back and forth to the IPS frame than I ever have. People can keep telling me letters are down, but my red pouches don't believe them.
Sooner or later, a beat dog bites.

They only have to change the already fictitious average container fill by a couple of items , and voila ! a drop in mail volumes.knackeredneedadayoff wrote: ↑20 May 2022, 11:19I started in the 80's and a big day was 2 bags of mail and it steadily increased and today its double figures for bags of mail so where is the mail drop off.

We don't scan any non-SDs out to DOs. The boxes/yorks/sleeves just get scanned before they're sorted. We don't do part fills eithertractorboy2 wrote: ↑20 May 2022, 11:30They only have to change the already fictitious average container fill by a couple of items , and voila ! a drop in mail volumes.knackeredneedadayoff wrote: ↑20 May 2022, 11:19I started in the 80's and a big day was 2 bags of mail and it steadily increased and today its double figures for bags of mail so where is the mail drop off.

As always your input is appreciated SP. However I double prep another duty and nearly every day this week it's had double the ammount of Mech. Admitedly my own duty hasn't had as much but it's enough to keep me out for my contracted hours. All this about "Ridiculously Low Levels of Mail" is BS. I know why we get it because the DOM's shown me figures ...ON HIS LAPTOP ... that prove it, but I can show him figures (in my diary) that show I'm still booking Pressure overtime to deliver it.SpacePhoenix wrote: ↑19 May 2022, 21:38Letters (mech and manual) and flats are down, can tell from us needing less staff to sort them. I think there's too many variables to just look at a figure on a screen and say, ''The letters are down today so you should be finishing earlier"

Simon Read this....
This statistic shows the forecast for the number of housing completions in the United Kingdom (UK) between 2018 and 2022. It is expected that in 2022, approximately 205 thousand of new houses will be completed per annum.Statista Research Department...
That's more than the last 5yrs.So more areas to cover .So how's post going down...D2D,bills,council
tax, voting (opps u don't count that).

The DOM is probably getting the figures direct off of Automis.Dorset Plodder wrote: ↑20 May 2022, 15:42As always your input is appreciated SP. There's so many things going into the mix that can counterbalance that drop in letters on a particular day.

Does anybody know how incoming post to a DO is counted? I assume the MECH is easy to count but how about the flats and magazines etc which have to be sorted manually, are they really all individually counted each day?
In my view post, mainly addressed junk mail, seems to be on the increase, I must have visited 90% of my customers today on my own round and the lapsed round, which I'm guessing hadn't been delivered yesterday, 99%, with some customers having 5 or more pieces of post.

They don't. They just look at this week's figures last year and take 10% off. Boom reduction in mail proved.
The drop is real I'm not an idiot but I'm delivering to 2 to 3 times more addresses than I was 15 years so the drop is easily counteracted by more delivery time. Unitl they find a way to deliver 1 letter to a house faster than 15 letters the drop is largely irrelevant and a massive red herring.

This is a major flaw in the indoor workplan. They don't. They just look at this week's figures last year and take 10% off. Boom reduction in mail proved.
The machines can count the mail accurately but these figures don't drop until long after the indoor workplan has already been built so the workplan is basically a guess based on historical figures.
Since mail volumes can fluctuate dramatically from day to day (we had at least 60% more sequenced mail today than yesterday) you would probably be more accurate with a cup full of tea leaves.

I remember a few years ago when the data protection laws came in and royal mail said it would be the death of junk mail. The exact opposite has happened because instead of getting targeted junk to a particular person at addresses on a street they now spam the whole street with a letter to "the resident" "the homeowner" or "the holidaymaker' for example and just put no personal data used to make this mailing! I regularly get the same items for nearly half my delivery one day then the other half the next and they get sent again a few weeks later. The postcode lottery is a regular for every house that doesn't play it every month

Are there any figures out there showing if certain areas / delivery offices get more mail than others? Is there dramatic differences from some areas of the country to others? Is there a difference between richer and poorer areas or differences between areas with older populations v ones with young people?
I'd love to know how my mail centre compares to the rest of the country.
There must be mail centres out there which have pretty light mail and parcels almost daily where Posties are doing half the work a lot of the rest of us do. I am virtually never finishing early.
