What about non drivers?
They'll probably still either work with a driver on a shared van duty or do a hct duty.

If Thompson & his team of shysters get anywhere near succeeding with this annualised hours schtick you can bet it's just a prelude to their ultimate goal which is walk/route franchising. If there are people under any illusions about how ruthless, greedy and uncaring the executive tiers of RM are then they need to wake up and smell the bullshit pretty damn quickly.

The rumours of this ugly horrible bastard of an idea cropped up a few years ago, basically you get paid a fixed amount to deliver "your" duty regardless of what it takes.

Obviously the plan in throwing all these half baked strings into the pot was to stop people thinking about pay and get them jumping at shadows.

It seems to have worked a treat.

Would the walks even be the same in both summer and winter? Over the last few years they've got lots of data about what mail each walk gets. I wouldn't put it past RM to eventually have different sets of walks for the summer and winter

Totally Agree WG :thumbup

I know it's meant to be a discussion forum but FFS, please stop pulling all these half-baked ideas out of your assholes ........ all these "Ifs" & Buts" will stress the hell out of you (and probably a good few others as well) wait and see what is actually proposed, and the Unions reaction to it. Then we'll really have something to discuss. :cuppa

This isn't annualised hours he's talking about, it's changing your contracts so that you're a salaried worker - so you're no longer paid based on hours but on a monthly salaried basis and you're expected to complete your work in however long it takes.

Sounds good right? Wrong

It sounds fine for off peak periods, where you could get your work done in 4 hours then f**k off home.

But peak periods? you'd be expected to work 10-12 hour days to get your work done - and there'd be no overtime, you'd have your salaried amount and that's it, no matter how long it takes to get the work done.

No wonder RM are eager for it - they'd cut their OT budget completely, they'd be able to tell agency workers to get to f**k, and they'd be able to work the current workforce to the bone until they quit and they can bring in the new starters on shitty minimum wage contracts.

There are so many issues with this it is practically unworkable so my suspicion is it's one of those things that go down in the wishlist and wet dream column.

If this ever did come in I would just move to part-time.
It would be a s**t show attempting it with a full-time contract, impossible on anything less than full-time.

I can see them offering all PT’s permanent full time hours.

It would make the annualised hours pill a little more easy to swallow for a lot of the workforce & piss a lot of the older, senior full timers off too. Divide & conquer.

The money saved on OT would be astronomical & could easily fund the uplift in hours for part timers that desire the increase

What happens if you start work in September and leave in January ,does that mean you are working for £7 an hour or do you get a lump some when you leave for the hours you haven't been paid.
