Retirement

Post by thelastsuspect »

Hi all, I am coming up to the big 60 in November this year, would have been with RM for coming up to 35 years by then, the last 13 have been P/T.
I would like to retire and take my 60 & 65 pensions. My question is do I need top leave before November so I can get all my pensions including the pension supplements at the same time, I don't really want to have to claim my pensions then have to claim the PS after because I will still be working at RM when I claim my pension if that makes any sense? would appreciate any help and advise from anyone who has experience of this.

You can still carry on working and claim your pension, in fact I would advise you to stay in your job until the pension and lump sum is actually going into your bank account first, then you can make a decision to leave RM or not.

I'm not far from 60 in a few years myself, I would be doing a similar thing taking all my 60 and 65 with the lump sum, I will be staying in my job until all the money is being paid in, you don't want be caught out if there is a delay in pension payment and you're out of a job with no money coming in.

Robert T is usually quite knowledgeable about pension, I'm sure he can advise.

I have no personal experience of this!
But going by previous posts on this forum, they seem to assume you're going to continue working for RM when you take your pension(assuming you haven't already left). Therefore it might be wise to inform them of your plans to leave and that you will be wanting your supplement paid aswell.

If there's a delay in receiving your benefits beyond NRA, any late payments should be backdated.

Many thanks Robert, yes might be wise to inform the pension people that I will be leaving and would like my ps when I receive my pension.
