i've always said Sundays will be compulsory sooner or later, maybe not in this deal as there should be ample new starters and because rm won't staff up up the previous 6 days we're short, but uncle terry always told us Sundays will always be voluntary "unless otherwise contracted" and i will hold him to that statement when he backs down and says it's the way forward for the company

Sir Henry the CWU did not say that Royal Mail want to remove all allowances, Royal Mail said there were 32 allowances they wanted to review.

We will find out what those allowances are in the talks next week.

Royal Mail comms state they will want to buy out or consolidate some of these but there are a number of reserved right payments such as PHGs differential , EX PBS monies which are only received by a diminishing amount of employees.

We will understand by Friday next week if we have to ballot the membership or whether Royal Mail have moved their position.

Surely there's no moving of position. Either we want a no strings pay deal or we are saying we want one but will settle for some strings? Which is it? I think the membership deserve to know.

2. Scrapping 32 allowances and supplement.
You are correct Martin. Royal Mail and the CWU didn't say they wanted to scrap all allowances. You did.

He said 32, not all. How many are there?

Martin we're not idiots and neither are Royal Mail.
When Royal Mail made this offer they knew it would be rejected out of hand.

They also knew the CWU would leak the information.

They also knew that with conference ongoing they would draw that reaction from the union.

So you explain to us why Royal Mail would make an offer they knew was an insult knowing full well the union would leak the offer and put the members on a war footing? ?

Keep it simple if you can Martin, either you're being played or you're a player in the game.

This is exactly what I'm thinking

We know the CWU have botched the ballot for strike action before. Now, the Union are revealing details of this "closed" offer from Royal Mail.

1. Is this offer from Royal Mail "closed" for a reason? i.e. is it because it isn't their final proposal that they wish to communicate to postal workers and would Martin be technically unlawful to disclose any details about it before the Royal Mail???

2. Why are the CWU immediately serving one month notice in line with the dispute resolution process?

theres something not quite right..

Royal Mail made a closed offer to the CWU on Thursday 21st of April. The CWU rejected the offer outright.

Royal Mail followed this up with a written proposal. Terry made a video of outside Mount Pleasant and Ricky Maculey did a video and a written communication.

The CWU agreed that the offer was not acceptable and that we would not keep the closed offer secret from our membership.

The CWU conference then debated an emergency motion in which Terry and Mark Baulch revealed the full offer along with the strings.

A lot on here would have been critical if we kept the information secret from the membership which Was designed by Royal Mail when they made a closed offer which is meant to be secret offer.

All of those string listed are in that offer.

Royal Mail and the CWU are meeting next Tuesday, Weds and Thursday and if there is a not acceptable pay agreement by next Friday we will serve the one month notice in line with the legal Dispute resolution process. There is no longer a requirement to go to external mediation and we can ballot for strike action within the one month period.

It suits Royal Mail to keep the information secret from you.

If you want a better pay deal without those unacceptable strings then you have a choice either back the CWU or accept the inferior offer with strings.

The CWU are not playing some game here. Royal Mail have basically put on the table most of what they wanted prior to the 4 Pillars Agreement.

It is typical that some posters are moaning about having the up to date information rather then accepting Royal Mails request to keep it a closed and secret offer.

Remember Royal Mails full year results are announced on 19th May.

Our members deserved to be informed and they deserve a pay rise !
Thanks for the update, Martin. Most of us do appreciate being kept in the know.
I’m backing the CWU all the way on this one.

We have to.

I appreciate Martin's input as well but I thought the Royal Mail would have to notify us all in writing before the Union were allowed to serve papers and ballot the members

And why is everything happening so fast? Are we all massively desperate for a pay rise right here and now that if we don't get at least 3.5% by next week then we are all going to starve to death and decompose??

I think Martin said that the Royal Mail are revealing their financials on the 19th May and we know that they can cook the books so why not wait till then at least before doing the dispute resolution thing?

So fast, it’s nearly a month late already and the members are hurting financially.

It has to be a No strings pay rise and nothing less. The job is already on it’s knees, anything less and most members will leave in droves (both the union and rm). The CWU will be finished and RM will self destruct as we know it to become yet another third rate parcel company.

Someone posted a link to the Manchester bin men dispute resolution of 22% pay increase versus 1.75% offered originally in Workplace and within minutes it was taken down and the poster has mysteriously disappeared off the site. Let's make no bones about this our dispute is going to be long and possibly expensive for those that stand together and are prepared to walk. Solidarity brothers (and sisters) we can do this.
