Royal Mail made a closed offer to the CWU on Thursday 21st of April. The CWU rejected the offer outright.

Royal Mail followed this up with a written proposal. Terry made a video of outside Mount Pleasant and Ricky Maculey did a video and a written communication.

The CWU agreed that the offer was not acceptable and that we would not keep the closed offer secret from our membership.

The CWU conference then debated an emergency motion in which Terry and Mark Baulch revealed the full offer along with the strings.

A lot on here would have been critical if we kept the information secret from the membership which Was designed by Royal Mail when they made a closed offer which is meant to be secret offer.

All of those string listed are in that offer.

Royal Mail and the CWU are meeting next Tuesday, Weds and Thursday and if there is a not acceptable pay agreement by next Friday we will serve the one month notice in line with the legal Dispute resolution process. There is no longer a requirement to go to external mediation and we can ballot for strike action within the one month period.

It suits Royal Mail to keep the information secret from you.

If you want a better pay deal without those unacceptable strings then you have a choice either back the CWU or accept the inferior offer with strings.

The CWU are not playing some game here. Royal Mail have basically put on the table most of what they wanted prior to the 4 Pillars Agreement.

It is typical that some posters are moaning about having the up to date information rather then accepting Royal Mails request to keep it a closed and secret offer.

Remember Royal Mails full year results are announced on 19th May.

Our members deserved to be informed and they deserve a pay rise !

The union are going to really box clever with this, Royal Mail are putting it out that they h ave offered 5.5% . People will think posties being greedy for knocking it back but don’t know about all the strings attached. Think the union need to up there p.r. game to let the public know the truth
Don’t know about the rest of you but I’m way past caring what the public think of us. The fake smiles and cute rainbow signs ultimately counted for nothing when their hair straighteners were delayed by a day.
I'm the same, we've given our best effort over the last couple of CV-19 yrs, up against everything. Even now, walks are left in for a number of days, posties bodies are breaking / broken, little or no office morale, clapped out vans etc. The business / local and upper management could not care less about receiving customers, I have no reason to care what the public think or feel about the pay award, if we get one. They are more than welcome to moan and complain about that and the sh!t service we are providing, it only falls on deaf ears. We can only do what we can in the allotted time that our contracts state, which is under attack!

How can a closed offer be kept secret when the membership need to vote on it even if Terry and co agreed?

Often a pay deal will be based on a closed offer which will only be revealed when there is a formal agreement.

I’ll obviously be backing the union, but is there anything we can really do to stop Royal Mail imposing these changes on us. I fear even us striking wouldn’t bother them that much, they would just get agency to cover the tracked and we would all come back to double Mail which is still happening on a lot of duties now anyway. Feels helpless.

But it was made in the hope, even if pretend hope, that you agreed it surely

If they wanted it kept secret from us - how could it be agreed? Even if you guys made a formal agreement, we would still need to be told it before voting for or against it which means it would be out in the open before final agreement.

Martin we're not idiots and neither are Royal Mail.
When Royal Mail made this offer they knew it would be rejected out of hand.

They also knew the CWU would leak the information.

They also knew that with conference ongoing they would draw that reaction from the union.

So you explain to us why Royal Mail would make an offer they knew was an insult knowing full well the union would leak the offer and put the members on a war footing? ?

Keep it simple if you can Martin, either you're being played or you're a player in the game.

work to rule with no overtime ban for part timers who need the overtime to make a wage on shitty contracts ? if we are being paid basic wage then surely they should be allowed to earn a living. as they have been hoodwinked into thinking they had a secure job. people have bills, family, and a life to live. lets all get up about 9.30 have smoked kippers and read the financial times like a true shareholder.
sorry but you can't have some doing overtime and others not allowed, it simply won't and shouldn't work
it may seem harsh to PT staff, and i was one for quite a number of years including our last strikes, but when you take a job on you should expect to be able to live on the basic pay agreed at the time, if overtime became relied on then you should always be looking elsewhere,
nobody should ever need overtime on top to live, that's what this fight is about, ft & pt should stick together

So how does this measure up to what you've just said Martin?

"Hi I'm Adrian Porter, the director of rewarding performance here at the royal mail group.

Understandably, there has been a lot of speculation on workplace and other forums at the moment about the pay talks.

I've seen people expressing concern that there is a plan to take all allowances and supplements away.

I want to say up front that there are no plans to remove all allowances and supplements, it is simply not true, also, I want to point out that at this stage, we haven't actually shared any details with the CWU on this or other elements of the pay deal"

Does this mean Adrian is another lying management whore?

The CWU will be outmanoeuvred again in any negotiations - RM starts low with silly demands, but eventually gets what they want through yet another “deal of the century”. I guess our union will settle for 3.5% in exchange for compulsory Sundays and even later start times. Oh, and “increased flexibility” aka bending over backwards.

Here we go RM/CWU cliche alert No:3

Everytime a possible issue/dispute comes along we have to watch what the 'public' think just in case...so they can use that against us.

To hell with anyone else

@derekm - just making a point not at you but that point in general - i come across as aggressive in that post !
