I don't understand the mind set of some on here, saying I don't mind this string or that string. Blah blah. The royal mail know that the staff are suffering in the pocket and using that as an opportunity to change our terms and conditions. That is not right or playing far. Inflation is high and we are all feeling that, so after the last two years of slogging around carry record breaking parcel numbers. That hard work we all put in should be acknowledged with a no strings pay rise. I personally won't agree to any pay rise that has strings attached.

Apart from the first responses, which are possibly sarcasm(?), nobody has replied positively to this and are saying eff off to RM.

Martin started the ball rolling on this topic by dropping a canary in the coal mine with the proposed strings. Understandably, it leads to a lot of speculation on whether they are fabrications or proof that Ricky McAulay has been on the Scots Whiskey again.
On the face of it, shareholder value is the dumbest idea in the world.

There are a few saying they don't mind starting later etc.. For me personally, we shouldn't be discussing any of these strings as we should not accept anything less than a no strings rise. This deal needs to be dealt with swiftly so we all can all start receiving the payrise we need and deserve. By getting involved in discussing strings it will mean the payrise will be a long and protracted process.

If the offer was a straightforward 3.5% pay increase it wouldn't actually be that bad even though current UK inflation is around 7%

Any news headlines that show postal workers potentially striking for a 3.5% pay increase whilst Nurses and the Police have only accepted 2% will have the general public thinking that we are all greedy.

But Royal Mail are coy. Its the strings that has the potential to kill off any "deal" and just like previous negotiations most of them are not worth the paper they are written on
RPI is 9% for gods sake

I'm not in the union, yet I would be out on the gate with this shocking offer. RM should be embarrassed, yet they are not.

I could understand, maybe offering 8-10% with these conditions, but hell the effort from the workforce over the past two years and with a cost of living crises and 2% is what their basic offer is?!

Btw, annualised hours is the worst offender on this list, god forbid we have a light day or do the job as prescribed. Cloud f**king cuckoo land.

Half that payment to shareholders and there would be no strings. Total garbage.

Sod working later, what kind of service are we offering? We are not couriers. RM want to cut, cut, cut, yet how far before the service is a wreck? I agree with you that a payrise is due and that a 'pay deal' should be considered much later. Like I said in a previous post I expected this to be the bare minimum!

why can't we work to rule with an overtime ban? That way they will still have to pay us our basic wage but it won't be long before the place is in chaos :nana
this to a certain extent, but unfortunately a very large chunk of RM employees took the job knowing they couldn't live on the PT basic pay therefore will be against an overtime ban, and you cannot ballot for an overtime ban or work to rule for some but not others and would be impossible to monitor and unfair if PT were allowed to do some,
cwu hq have never gone down this road, it would be a rolling strike causing 3 days disruption with 1 day personal strike
i personally think it will come very close to this but it will be in the traditionally quieter months where they could suck up the disruption thus probably hurt us more than them unless you are willing to work 12hrs to make up lost money, which most will do

but for me, a complete overtime ban wold be better for continuous disruption but it won't happen

I get grief when I do loops in a different order and end up on a certain street 2 hours later than usual. Then it's the usual "god you're late, are you doing the night shift?"
Now imagine us starting our rounds at 11 or 12. Customers expect royal mail early, especially as we should be delivering to businesses in opening hours.

Can't wait to be out in December at 6/7 in the dark, rear ending someone as I'm struggling to see street names or house numbers

I still can't get over annualised hours. Ends overtime which is a proper killer for part timers who like to top up or get an enhacment over the festive period

The company know this would never be accepted but it seems they still think we are paid way to much for the job we do. It really show how much contempt the company has for its best assets and how seriously it takes the CWU. Maybe the softly softly approach and basic legal errors have eroded the unions sway. Personally i don’t see us taking industrial action and I think the company know that.

I personally can't see letter deliveries changing it will be parcels alone going out later, I suppose the medium to long term concerns are that eventually letters will eventually reduce so there will be no need for daily deliveries for residential addresses.

As far as annualised hours, I can't see how that will work for part timers, as at present all the 25/30 hours they work are taken up daily anyway, it's not like they could work 20/25 hours a week for 9 months pf the year then work 35/45 hours during the peak months, although if they did then most would probably leave as they can't survive w/o overtime pay.

I wonder what is a fair wage for what we do, the fact that so many new recruits leave so quickly after they've started suggest that it''s not that great pay?
