Most agency staff have now been recruited onto RM's books in our office.
We don't half get through a lot of staff though.

According to m' lord, General Council of the Royal Mail, Matthew Newman, there is no, I repeat there is no, and I'll say it one more time, there is no freeze on recruitment, sort of, kind of, possibly...
Q: Why are there blocks on recruitment when pathway to change clearly states that this shouldn't happen and that staffing levels in some offices are critically low.

So we do look at, we look at this daily, make sure we make the right decisions about recruitment, we can't over recruit, of course, of the time where we have forecasts of lower parcels and lower letter volumes, and of course, there's economic uncertainty that all of you will know well as well for the pathway to change does cover in depth the need to maintain our productivity as well, which goes hand in hand with recruitment and flexing our workforce.
The field teams look at each unit's needs taking into account the predicted attriction for employees in units, the longer term volumes that we anticipate coming through, the workload requirements over the coming couple of months, and any performance improvements that are required as well, and then we will recruit where we're necessary and sensible, but there is no recruitment freeze, and I think answers your question.

Ha. Actually laughable from Mr Newman. There is 100% a freeze on recruitment in my area, as ordered from new ROD. Other offices in area being told exact same citing that forecasted traffic volumes dictate recruitment is unnecessary even though walks are failing daily.

Manager from a neighbouring office says they had interviewed for vacancies and ready to send out the job offers when they were told no. He was a bit annoyed that they wasted his time with interviews, got everything sorted and then told no.
He was laughing at SUper Si comments about managers can make decisions at local level. Wasnt allowed vans at peak & now not allowed staff.

10+ rounds down tomorrow, i didn't even count as it's daily joke. About 7 left the sinking ship this year alone. Even tracked are hanging by a thread.

I have had an interview earlier this week at one delivery office and have another on Monday at a different one.
Are these likely to not go anywhere if there is a freeze, or is it just area specific?

A local agency has recently started advertising for my place, I assume they wouldn't waste the money if they didn't want extra staff?

My place had a new chap start yesterday, so i guess it depends on the area. We also are still advertising, i think the Indeed Ad was only a few days old when i looked the other day. Just take note it can take RM up to many weeks or a few months to get people through the door.
Keep an eye out for agency work on Indeed website also, that can get you through the door.

I think what's happening is that rather than a complete freeze on recruitment offices have been instructed to run lean so if an office needs five new staff it will recruit three or four and try to absorb the fifth.
That way the business can still deny there's a freeze on recruitment.
It's not new for offices to run lean if there's an appetite for overtime in the office but it's risky and tends to backfire when you have something like a revision... who knew?
