Rubbish!!! Pullinger said he reccomended the agreement but refused to sign it because the other two weren't!!! Is that the sort of leadership we are looking for now is it?

I would be careful what you wish for terry pullinger currently deals with parcelforce who accepted the same payrise, move to monhtly pay RM letters wanted long before we did and without a hint of a dispute. From people i have spoken to it is there opinion that ward is a better negotiator but that is only there opinion.

Also you have to question why is he challenging now it could be that he believes he would do a better job on behalf of the members or is it a case of he wouldnt have beaten ward head to head so he is only capable of challenging him when he feels membership opinion is against ward, if that were to be the case he would not be the right man for the job.

Nothing that affects the membership affects HQ staff - smaller pension, crap payrise, longer working life, flexiblity, redundancy, sickness benefit - so they probably get two deliveries as well.

TBH I'm not sure Pullinger is the man for the job either BUT Ward is too close to the Labour Party for my liking and it would be better if we had someone not tainted with the gravy train syndrome.

Sorry but I don't know what went on behind the scenes as you do. I only know that Pullinger didn't endorse the Agreement. Don't know anything else about him.
At the moment I am inclined to support Ward, despite his role in gettig the Agreement accepted, as I believe he did think it was the best we could get, though I don't think managers are going to act within what was intended to be the guidelines regarding negotiation.
Will wait till I know more about each candidate, what they have to say and how the campaign develops before I decide how to vote though.

If Pullinger is taking on Ward - do you reckon Jane Loftus will have a crack at Billy - A female General Secretary

Billy doesn't have to stand for re-election until 2011 I think.

He'd probably say he had 64% support his stance in the ballot.

Well I would use the election to change everybody - just as a salutary lesson - you were voted in and now you are voted out, and for what it's worth after this deal negotiations are pretty useless when it all boils down to flexibility, local agreement and a %age pay rise forced on us by the government. In those circumstances we might as well elect a chimp.
