Re: Payrise
2-year Postie. Apologies if you have already answered, but I’ll ask again…
How long have you been a Royal Mail employee?
Going off when you joined this forum & taking your username into consideration, would I be correct in guessing at around 4yrs?

“If they’re bills I don’t want ‘em!”
“What’s she been ordering now?”

Re: Payrise
Top and bottom for me, whether you like the people at the top of the Union or not, is we back them. If we get balloted and turn out or vote is low we're f****d. Royal mail will smell blood and rip this job limb to limb and we will end up with a two tier workforce. They already know the workforce is probably towards the older end. They've only got to wait that out and start everyone else on new Ts&C's and probably hope people on the current ones to quit due to the job being too physically demanding
I've been here just shy of 5 years now
I thought it was a safe job for life. But can I do this till retirement how it currently is or god forbid walks get longer. I'm not sure. So yeah, I need a payrise so I can hopefully save a little to the side just incase I fall short and don't want to be job hunting in my 60s

Hard to stomach if youve been in the job a lot of years.
So if you've worked an awful lot harder for a lot less money than what you do now, whats stopping you from working a ton of overtime and days off including Sundays and then banking the money and saving it for a rainy day?
Its called planning ahead

Hang on a minute. Overtime should always be fairly shared. Do you mean to say that only certain staff are getting all the overtime?

Re: Payrise
Well then you need to start pushing yourself a bit more for the overtime. Life isn't always fair. It wasn't fair when I started and some of the seniors had a duty that meant they were finishing 2 hours before anyone else, it isn't fair now that I'm quite a bit more senior and still there are posties who are still finishing before anyone else and managing to book a bit of overtime in between.
But oddly enough there is always plenty of overtime available in our depot.....its just that posties always want to pick and choose. So my advice if you need the dosh? Don't be picky.
Now we can keep going back and forth swapping points but from everything you said previously about needing the money and can't afford to strike. I really don't believe that your argument has got any legs anymore. Put the work in.
Go get it

Re: Payrise
There are some very flexible and motivated people in my office who always work their day off and can cover just about any duty. They never complain about lack of overtime. We are in fact still failing despite tons of overtime performed. There are non duty holders who can enjoy decent overtime if they want to. It is not always overtime kings who do overtime. However these guys never stop and do you think they walk around broke? Body might be at breaking point but they are not broke. Something tells me you are one of those who just wants to be left alone, be fed crumbs. Scared of standing up your ground and not willing to put in the effort to try to make some extra cash. Royal Mail has never been more understaffed in history so there must be overtime. If you are not willing to do any you should be first to fight for a decent pay rise.2yearpostie wrote: ↑25 Apr 2022, 18:08Duty holders working overtime on thier duties as they are allowed to.postslippete wrote: ↑25 Apr 2022, 18:032yearpostie wrote: ↑24 Apr 2022, 19:51ive worked in factories for as little as £6 in my time (when it was legal) ive worked an awful lot harder for a lot less money than a postie does now.Chelseablue wrote: ↑24 Apr 2022, 19:49You put a little aside for any strikes , are you happy with they way our company has been run in last few years? Christ on a cross is that 2 year gadge still going on?

Re: Payrise
Posties have been through so much over the last two years. When covid first hit and the whole country was s**t scared we carried on, because we had to and because we could.
It affected us all in different ways, but we did our bit and got through it and now this.
Never been so disillusioned and demorolised.
