It won't happen overnight, but lets be honest, it will happen sometime

If you turn up late, you could be docked pay
If you regularly leave the office well before the end of your shift, you could be given extra work to make up the time
If you decide to come in early off your own bat, then more fool you, as you will still be coming in early off your own bat
If you do half a delivery extra on overtime and expect to be on pay till 10pm, yet you clocked out at 3pm..... Well, it will catch up with you one day

And if you can keep your head when all about you are losing theirs and blaming it all on you;
you'll be a manager my son

Clocking machines are for the company's benefit, not ours.
On the face of it, shareholder value is the dumbest idea in the world.

This is what happens in my office. Each Monday a sheet gets put up where people can put down what days they are available to work overtime the following week. A tally is kept of who has already done overtime in the last few weeks and the person who has done the least is put at the top of the list, the person with the second lowest amount of overtime goes next and so on. When overtime is needed by the manager, they go through the list and ask people at the top of the list and then go down the list until someone agrees to do it.
It’s easy to set up and is the fairest way of dividing it up. Seniority is the stupidest system as senior people have full time contracts and don’t need the extra money as much as the new guys on 25 hours

The fairest way to allocate OT is to use a aggregate system. Those with the lowest Aggregate get asked first then so on until the overtime for the office has been covered.

There are legal issues surrounding GDPR with sharing information on overtime worked so you're kinda trusting managers on that one as well.

There's no perfect system.
You would like to think you could trust management to allocate it fairly but...

In our office, one of the post"persons" regulates the who does the overtime and it is in all essence, "rationed" with the post "person" doing the sizable majority of the overtime(shortest loops) and those on shorter hours not getting a look in, or being offered the walks that the chosen few tell the manager to "do one" when asked after the cherry picking is complete.

FCFS is and will always be the fairest way to delegate overtime.

I don’t understand the people who go “oh yes boss I’ll have overtime” but constantly grizzle and whine that it’s a rammed loop etc while Johnny and Jane over there get easier loops.

Either you want the work or you don’t.

I don't get paid at a higher rate I do no overtime whatsoever.
Your doing it wrong then, you need to do deal & sign for it before you go out, most of our overtime monkeys are being paid until 8/9/10 @ night & they are back home by 3pm feet up & cup of tea, they always ask for a spare van & dump their snail pace partner, take no D2Ds & bring back a “Cobble Box” full of single letters, good luck to em, get want you can :cuppa
There going to love Clocking In / Out
Thing is, what’s the alternative?
They clearly won’t recruit.
If they give the monkeys no incentive, it won’t get done.
Royal Mail have to be smart with how they implement this, it could cause them a lot more damage and grief than they expect.

Thing is, Johnny and Jane might be getting a deal for clearing those easy loops, say 2hrs OT for what takes them say 45mins. They might even be doing most of that 45mins inside their day's contract hours. While the OPG clearing the rammed loops takes 2hrs and only gets paid 2hrs.

This happens at our office constantly.

Theres plenty of people in our unit who will take obscene pay compared to the overtime they do. There’s a running joke that sometimes people on certain sectors get up to 4 hours overtime pay for doing no more than 2 loops.

It’s beyond a joke.

I sort out my own overtime and approach managers if I want to do it. If I do it, I let them know how much I worked extra afterwards. From my perspective I’d rather get paid for work I’ve actually done.

When SISO comes in, the people that get paid too much against the work they do will be in for quite a shock.

No they won't.
SISO will only be used if there's a conflict between management and staff over the overtime, if management have already agreed to pay 4hrs for 2hrs work nobody is going to challenge anything.

I'm not defending the situation but we have to be realistic, they've had PDA actuals for two years now and despite some people on here proclaiming that the "higher ups" would swoop down and tear hours out of offices we have seen zero change.

The bottom line is management will do what suits them and if that's overpaying overtime with a "sweetener" then that's what they'll continue to do.

In my opinion if you're talking about fairness, the part-time employees should be given first refusal of any & all overtime working in order of the lowest contract hours first.
