Surely it's customers who decide on next day deliveries not the OPG's delivering them when they arrive at the DO?
Likewise bigger parcels, unless we're going to take work of the Parcelforce side of the business, if we do, then won't we all need bigger vans, not just the latest "electrified" van sites?
I can see OPG's being asked to be total flexible when it comes to both the days and the hours they work, perhaps moving to4 days a week, including Sunday's, over longer, 8 hour?, shifts.
It means delivering later in the day so it gives the 'pipeline' time to get the next day parcels to the DO's for delivery

Ultimately RM will redo the final dispatch times from MCs to DOs to be later, probably at least 10 hours later if not more, to allow the LAT stuff to be there for final dispatch and get delivered along with everything else. I wonder if eventually we’ll see deliveries leaving the DO at 4pm.
Good luck trying to get virtually every OPG to move from a early morning start to midday, I just can't see that happening. At present we only deliver around 50 LATs on a good day, is it really worthwhile changing the whole way we deliver for such a small % of parcels, rather than just employ more drivers to deliver them in the afternoon.
The suggestion we start delivering later won't overcome Simon's concerns that we only use the vans for 6 hours each day.

Yes it does as the unfortunate half who would be delivering later in the afternoon/evening would be using the same vans as the fortunate half used in the morning/afternoon
Thus halfing the number of vans needed
Remember they dont need us ALL to be delivering later

They are after what they were after last time, taking anything bigger than a shoebox off “core” delivery’s. They will then have later parcel drivers who can do the LAT’s at the same time. They will then revise the walks (remember we agreed to yearly revisions) and they will become even bigger. That’s how I read it.

I agree definIte lack of sense of humour on here sometimes HTP. I've started giving "Joke Warnings", as a lot of our colleagues seem incapable of spotting one, unless it's pointed out.

The problem with the 'threat' or voted in strikes is that, if we went out on strike, upper management might feel "that's ok, you're all fired, but you all can come back on less pay and far worse T&C's". Just like the poor guys at P&O.

My guess would be the same as @sindba posted, it would be a legal minefield, along with the union, I hesitate to use 'strong' union as I believe, over the last few years, the CWU have got weaker and jumping more and more in the upper managements pockets.

First point was the other side of the coin / food for thought, something that RM may do, but highly doubtful.

They had the chance to bring parcel deliveries in during the hugely successful revisions of last year but decided not to bother in lots of offices including mine.
You have to wonder if they will push for these parcel deliveries now over 7 days from all offices and try and combine it with the wet dream of cutting the USO for letters to 5 days Monday to Friday like they want to do, remember the experiment during covid?
Put that to delivery staff for a vote and even if it means job losses the ones who would get to pick a Monday to Friday jobs after the resulting new super duper revisions combined with a bit of a pay rise and it would.be a yes vote. Would depend on ofcom playing ball but their report said customers wouldn't be impacted or bothered about letters being Monday to Friday so don't think they'd block it and would say it helps sustain the uso

We already have specific parcel deliveries in our DO but they take all day for them to be delivered, there's no way they could leave later with the LATs, unless you had loads of drivers just delivering parcels for a couple of hours in the afternoons. I guess then the vans are used for a couple of hours longer each day.
If that is the way forward then way on earth wasn't it included in all of the recent revisions!

Being a regular LAT driver at my DO, this happens most days already. On a normal day I take the majority of parcels for two/three walks, along with any miss sorts and the odd special, and do these along with collecting the LAT's from the MC and delivering them. No issues with it myself and I often ask around in case any of the later starters has anything else they'd like me to take off them.
I can see that this might not work for some, but it works for me and it regularly boosts my hours to well above my contracted 18hrs a week
More Sunday working for all it seems and more oversize parcels are mentioned as being reasons for us not being given a new payrise until we can agree to such things.

Bigger parcels? Royal Mail have dropped the price (april 4th) of some heavier parcels by around £20. Prices have become alot more competitive now and we should start to get more heavier parcels soon. Looking forward to squeezing it into that rust bucket of a van
