Re: Payrise
We don’t want a pay “deal” we want a pay rise. Deals mean strings

BUT, when a deal does eventually get negotiated, the one thing that must at the forefront of your minds when reading it and deciding whether you are going to vote for or against it, is that you MUST, MUST look BEYOND the pay percentage rise and back pay amounts.
Because believe me, RM will want quite a bit back from you in return! Simon is having his strings well and truly pulled by the accountants and shareholders, the management cull and restructure is simply one example of what the company wants back, going forward.
He seems to be making a big thing out of sickness levels and cost now - don't be surprised if that's in the "in return" part of the deal. Slowly but surely members are voting away their terms and conditions in favour of cash - NDA/Saturday Premiums/van driving allowance/PHG allowance/D2D payments
are just an example of what comes to mind.
The CWU can only put the deal to you to accept or reject - if you vote it in then don't blame them when the company want their part of the deal back after you've had the backpay and wage increase.
They are definitely coming for our sick pay next
After that it will be our paid meal reliefs
Our only saving grace is they might realise that if they continue as they are, they will be left with no one willing to do the job
If you tolerate this, then your paid break will be next

Re: Payrise
I would back a limited number of paid sick days per year as the current system is open to abuse.
Maybe 14 days + anything with a doctors note would work better?

Re: Payrise
Yeah i would cause those people that use sick pay as extra holiday heap pressure on the rest of us to either take extra to cover thier job or have an argument with the dom why you cant.

Re: Payrise
Regarding sick pay - how does it actually work.
My basic understanding is that you are given 6 months full pay then 6 months half pay over a rolling period of 3 or 4 years.
What happens if you are off for 6 months on full pay, a month or so at half pay then you return to work. Have you 'used up' all your sick pay for the next 3 years? If you are off a year later for 2 weeks do you get full pay/half pay or no pay?

Re: Payrise
It's possibly too controversial but I would probably agree with you that some kind of change is required perhaps in return for a less draconian attendance procedure but.. NOT as part of any pay rise negotiation.2yearpostie wrote: ↑10 Apr 2022, 11:16Yeah i would cause those people that use sick pay as extra holiday heap pressure on the rest of us to either take extra to cover thier job or have an argument with the dom why you cant.
Only as part of a separate negotiation on sick pay and the attendance procedure.

Re: Payrise
Thats what the attendance procedure is for to stop abuse. The flip side is say you need time to recover from say surgery the sick pay supports that.2yearpostie wrote: ↑10 Apr 2022, 11:16Yeah i would cause those people that use sick pay as extra holiday heap pressure on the rest of us to either take extra to cover thier job or have an argument with the dom why you cant.

Re: Payrise
I think this hits the nail on the head. It seems other people outside RM that i talk to just get a basic straight pay rise. No strings or extra work required. It always seems we have to "self fund" our cost of living increases despite the fact the business is making profit or not.priority102 wrote: ↑10 Apr 2022, 08:2627 pages on here of thoughts on the pay deal and the reality is that no one knows what will eventually come out.

Quite right. I will be voting NO to any pay deal that reduces our T+C’s further.krussel wrote: ↑10 Apr 2022, 12:08I think this hits the nail on the head. Captain Terry is always going on about our ‘fought for’ terms & conditions, perhaps he should think about that when he’s next at the negotiation table…

Re: Payrise
So,I have 20yrs service & an almost exemplary sick record. I know for a fact that I will be needing an operation on my knee within the next 12months which will see me off my feet & off work for at least 6-weeks. Are you saying I should only be paid for the initial fortnight? Hardly seems right, all things considered…2yearpostie wrote: ↑10 Apr 2022, 10:49I would back a limited number of paid sick days per year as the current system is open to abuse.

The 14 day thing would be stop the ones with a head/belly/other type ache ( when theyve been going all week saying they are on the lash friday night and wont be in saturday)

But the stage system stops that being abused to a level2yearpostie wrote: ↑10 Apr 2022, 12:46No because youd be covered by my + anything with a doctors note.Cedar_Room wrote: ↑10 Apr 2022, 12:31So,I have 20yrs service & an almost exemplary sick record. You cant just take 20 single days here and there off in a year without repurcussions
Was it you who posted that people in your office phone in near enough every Monday? That cant happen without consequences. They simply wouldnt get away with it due to the stage system. You need to be a lot smarter when you time your days off if you want to ''play the system''
The first thing they should fix is not counting 5 days in a row as one absence but two single days for instance as two absences - just means theres no point coming back after a day as its counting the same as two, three, four, five days. Thats just stupid.
If you tolerate this, then your paid break will be next

Re: Payrise
Totally agree, that why i think giving out something like after youve had 14 days off sick in a year ( unless you have a medical note) your on your own.Acca Dacca wrote: ↑10 Apr 2022, 12:57

Re: Payrise
The payrise should be a straight no strings payrise, more hours off the working week will have to be self funded/efficiency’s. That’s how I read it, changing the sickness policy would or should go against everything the union stands for.
