Please Please let them strike I will do overtime on the days they strike. I will enjoy crossing their picket line same as they did on every time we had strikes don't remember them supporting CWU when the company got rid of 20000 Posties and then collected their bonuses on budget savings

We've actually got one decent Manager in ours who most respect and one ex Postie Lino who's useless but OK If that makes sense!

Across the country they can't get the staff.... if they think they can fire and rehire to pay less wages to Posties then they have no chance of doing that as they need a ridiculous amount of Posties and people won't even do the job as it is now.

I agree. This is textbook privitisation, or textbook capatalism, whatever you want to call it.

First part is to squeeze the front end staff as much as possible. Then after your low level managers have acheived that, you start getting rid of a lot of them, and increase workload on the ones that remain. By increasing the area they cover, via Cluster managers, or remote managers depending on type of business. You also develop technology and algortithms, that largely police your workforce, so there's not really that much that needs sorting out manually.

Royal Mail is just late to the party.

Hopefully the damage is mostly already done for Posties. However, if you look at the bogus "self-employed" (often through an agency) model that some of our competetors use. There's a hell of a lot worse that could be done, so you can't be complacent.

And as you say, it gets to the point where as a business you have to look attractive to staff, or else you won't be able to recruit or retain. I think the days of an infinite supply of cheap labour has gone. Companies have to adjust to that, and wise up, there's more to life than the endless pursuit of profit at the expense of all other considerations.

I would have thought that we'd be legally required to cross the picket lines of the managers as the CWU isn't involved in that particular dispute.

I would have thought that we'd be legally required to cross the picket lines of the managers as the CWU isn't involved in that particular dispute.

In that case surely the same applies to when managers crossed ours?

First they'll come for sick pay. Obviously it won't all disappear in one go but they've already eroded it for new starters who aren't eligible for quite a long period. So they might try for the 'not paying the first three days' again. And/or reducing the total amount of sick pay you can receive in a given period. Or decreasing the amount of sick that triggers a 'stage'.

Our glorious leader has been chuntering about sick pay for a few weeks now, so it's definitely on what he's pleased to call his mind.

Another thing they might want is a 'rationalisation' of contracts. All new starters have to be flexible on when they work in the period 7am-7pm. They could try and run that across the board.

They could try and get rid of 'signed for duties', arguing that smaller teams will mean managers can better allocate their staff to meet the demands of each day.

And like they always do. they'll propose a whole raft of these things and link them to pay. The union will be allowed to kick some of them into touch and claim a great victory by securing us 6% over 3 years, backdated to April 1st, with say £500 'acceptance bribe' (pro rata) while accepting whatever erosion of our conditions they think we'll stomach. And, like we always do, we'll take the money and then grumble.
