at this moment is the opening moves concerning the next fast approaching pay deal to be struck between RMG and the CWU.
As always the CWU has gone in high...I believe they are seeking a 6 - 8% pay increase.
No chance of that! But I am led to believe that they (CWU) would settle for the two outstanding hours and something a little over 2%.
Sounds fair enough to me. I would vote in favour of that.

I have no idea if he can back his claim up or what the source of his information is but if the union hierarchy are willing to settle for 2% and the final move to a 35 hour week they might find the rank and file voting with their feet.

At least the office has free heating and electricity, a pool table and a TV licence (I think).
I've just had a genius idea, open up DOs at night for homeless posties, I'm going straight on to Faceplace or WorkBook or whatever they call it with this one, it's a winner.
brilliant idea Woody. They should open the DOs for posties 24/7. Free heating, electricity a wifi would be the dream. Staying overnight, imagine the time saved on commuting and money. I reckon given the direction things are going at the moment. I don't only mean Royal Mail but in general, see Rishi's budget etc. I imagine it could attract quite a crowd
agree with toonshola a small rise and a 35 hr week with a 4 day week for delivery staff makes a lot of sense as 4 day weeks are few and far between in most offices lets get the ball rolling

If recent history is anything to go by, it will be:
35 hour week.
pittance of a payrise.
4 day week*
*4 day week agreed then after a bit of number crunching they realise there isn't enough staff and we revert back to 5 days. Nothing surer.

They're prepping D2Ds when I leave on time and stood in the exact same spot when I arrive on time the next morning.
People prepared to take a pay cut and cram 40 hours worth of work into 35? Good luck with that. Same people will be on here crying they can't afford anything or get the duties done.
But these talks should start as soon as seasonal peak is over, so that pay rises are implemented at the start of the FY.
It's a tactic so that a lesser pay rise is put forward in late summer/autumn, everyone is cheesed off waiting for it
and it just gets voted through as people see Christmas on the horizon and need the money to pay the bills now!
I agree. Cannot understand why the CWU leave it so late. They get an idea of inflation the previous autumn. They talk to RM all the time about other issues but when it comes to pay they leave it until the last minute. Talks should start about October / November so the pay is sorted out by about May /June at the latest.

Making a big deal on Workspace about the P&O situation. No doubt this will be referenced when we are told 1% is the best they can offer...just be grateful you don't work on the ferries.
I assume the payrise will not be implemented on 1st April 2022. It is apparent the CWU have requested a standalone pay deal on that date. Previous pay deals have been resolved over a sustained period of time, as indicated below;
Four Pillars of Security and Pay National Agreement February/March 2018
With effect from the 2nd October 2017 an increase of 5% (Instead of 2.5% from April 2017)
A reduction in the working week of one hour from October 2018
With effect from the 1st April 2019 an increase of 2%
A further reduction of 1 hour in the working week to be introduced from the 1st October 2019
NOTE; This hour was not implemented.
The next pay review date will be 1st April 2020
RMG & CWU (THE PATHWAY TO CHANGE) December 2020
1. A 2.7% pay increase payable effective from April 2020
2. A further pay increase of 1% with effect from April 2021
3. The second hour of the shorter working week or equivalent benefit to be implemented at the point that a 2021 revision activity is deployed in a function/unit.
If this pay round is drawn out again I trust that the negotiations can be made for change in the timescale for future pay deals.

We are all eagerly awaiting at least an announcement from the CWU about the pay deal and some of us still aren't paid the correct rate after revisions enabled shorter working week. I believe each part timer should see a better rate immediately and I also believe this should result in overtime rate slightly improved too.
I am not expecting too much from this company. I feel offended reading by comparing us to P&O ferries and pointing it out using their example that it can always be worse. I bet if Simon could get away with doing it at Royal Mail, he wouldn't hesitate to axe most if not all delivery workforce and rehire on much much worse conditions.
CWU there are thousands of posties at breaking point waiting for some good news about the pay deal. We haven't had any good news in a very long time now.
RM don't care about the workforce or the service provided and nor does the CWU. Martin Walsh has posted details of the reasons why RM won't be rushing to make any worthwhile offer, it read more like a company statement to be honest.
I won't be holding my breath for a pay rise in the near future, it will probably be drawn out for a few months and will have loads of strings attached when it does appear. And most people will be more interested in getting the back pay than they are about the strings!
