Re: Payrise
Murdoch, how can you include the Delivery supplement? It has nothing to do with hourly rates. That's entirely the point, it is kept separate for a reason. It is a functional allowance. Relating to the job and nothing else, like Night allowance etc.

Re: Payrise
To be fair its all irrelevant now. Our union leader hinted about the pay rise and it’s all gone quiet. I doubt we are getting anything anyway. It’s all big talk from union and then nothing happens. I love how people trying to justify we are on good pay as its nearing £13 an hour. I bet they are the same people who come in half and hour early everyday and work for free.

Re: Payrise
I don't know why people are so hung up on showing how much we earn to prove a point, we already should know how much we earn, it's on your pay slip.
The point is the gap between what we earn and other less physically demanding unskilled jobs is closing especially taking into account overtime rates and the more it closes the harder it will be to recruit and retain staff. Throw the management incompetence and s**t weather into the equation and obviously you have a problem.
That's basic stuff and doesn't require pages and pages of back and forward arguments.

I despair, hearing and reading colleagues defending our wonderful hourly wage for an unskilled job.
This is exactly why, come September or whenever, another shite deal will be voted in after thy are blinded by the lure of that couple of percent backdated to April.
Sooner or later, a beat dog bites.

None of these points are of any concern to the company though that's the issue.Woody Guthrie wrote: ↑23 Mar 2022, 00:52The point is the gap between what we earn and other less physically demanding unskilled jobs is closing especially taking into account overtime rates and the more it closes the harder it will be to recruit and retain staff.
If you have a more casual workforce, on lower pay, then they're less likely to be unionised, and they can reduce the terms and conditions, much like how Amazon logistics must work, whenever I get a delivery from them it's a different driver.
So I really don't think staff retention is high on their agenda, with the PDAs and autoroute anybody can deliver a van load of parcels nowadays, hence the influx of agency staff.

Re: Payrise
The business doesn't want casual staff, they're very expensive.
The business doesn't want a high turnover of staff, again it's very expensive.
Of course cost is an issue for the business.
Staff retention is one of the biggest issues facing the business.

Re: Payrise
You would think so but I have seen so many people come and go in the last year that I don’t agree. As has already been pointed out it must be costing them a fortune in recruitment and reputation.

Re: Payrise
at this moment is the opening moves concerning the next fast approaching pay deal to be struck between RMG and the CWU.
As always the CWU has gone in high...I believe they are seeking a 6 - 8% pay increase.
No chance of that! But I am led to believe that they (CWU) would settle for the two outstanding hours and something a little over 2%.
Sounds fair enough to me. I would vote in favour of that.
This is from a poster on Royal Mail Share Chat.
I have no idea if he can back his claim up or what the source of his information is but if the union hierarchy are willing to settle for 2% and the final move to a 35 hour week they might find the rank and file voting with their feet.

The societies of consumption and squandering of material resources are incompatible with the idea of economic growth and a clean planet.

If that 35 hour week comes with the chance of four day weeks on delivery then I’m in.clashcityrocker wrote: ↑24 Mar 2022, 16:39at this moment is the opening moves concerning the next fast approaching pay deal to be struck between RMG and the CWU.

Also there's my chiropractor bill and my reiki massage therapist to pay, then there's my psychologist and my spirit guide all trying to heal my mind and body from this s**t show of a job, it all costs.
Also the hard drugs...

Or the only people applying will be 'unable' to do the job at any sort of speed.

Re: Payrise
Leaving aside the insult of a well below inflation 2%, those in the CWU top jobs need to come into each DO and explain how 40 plus hours work per week is supposed to fit into 35.clashcityrocker wrote: ↑24 Mar 2022, 16:39at this moment is the opening moves concerning the next fast approaching pay deal to be struck between RMG and the CWU.

Re: Payrise
Gonna get on to the gas people and tell them I'm paying them in minutes this month from my 35hr week.
So I get to spend an extra 2 hours a week doing f**k all at home because I can't afford to?
At least the office has free heating and electricity, a pool table and a TV licence (I think).
I've just had a genius idea, open up DOs at night for homeless posties, I'm going straight on to Faceplace or WorkBook or whatever they call it with this one, it's a winner.
