Return of customers signing for items on PDA? 4 April?

Just seen this on Workspace:

OPG: Any truth in rumours that customers have to start signing the PDA’S from early April

DOM: This is confirmed. From 4th April with a view to full re-in statement by 30th April

CSP: It's about time! What would the procedure be if a customer didn't want to touch the PDA? I assume we would use 'XP1' or would we refuse the item?

DOM: There is a solution to that which you should have briefed to you shortly.

Anyone else know anything official on this?

Never liked it anyway. Knock on door, “Hang on” someone clearly on the bloody toilet, sound of hurried flushing and you offer them your pda when the magically appear at the door .Euuuuugh

Didn't know Covid had disappeared

We had a meeting today saying this but missed the bit about if the customer refuses or requests they don't wish to touch the pda, do we just politely tell them you'll have to collect it from the DO?

What is the official procedure in this instance??

What would the procedure be if YOU don't want the customer touching your PDA. Health and Safety is an individual responsibility and it's at our own discretion as to whether we deem something safe or not.

If Royal Mail can guarantee to me that the following is not true, then I will consider allowing members of public to touch my PDA...

Covid cases are currently rocketing upwards.

Can anybody explain why photo capture can't now replace a signature, isn't a photo of an open front door with the parcel or letter lying on the floor just as much proof of delivery to a customer as a squiggle on a PDA?

According to one of the screws on Workplace. It's a niche requirement from certain sending customers ie jewellers and foreign currency suppliers. I simply will change my XP1 or my 1dX (depending which way the screen decides to rotate) to DWS (Delivered without Signature) and carry on as before. My PDA is not leaving my wrist until it goes back in the cradle at 14.45

We could potentially have 3 new clueless managers in our office if the clueless ones we have in already don't get their jobs. 2 have asked for VR so they definitely won't be around. So chasing up non signed for signature items is going to be pretty low on their list of important jobs for the next few months.
