I suppose its just out of politeness but I've lost count of the number of times I've bent down to pick an item up that I've left on the floor at the customers door. A lot people were either elderly or disabled and it just seems polite to pick the item up and give it to them.


When the bags a bit heavier that might not be possible without doing my back in.

And before anyone mentions the LWTs. Who's really using the golf trolleys religiously these days?

Once you have pressed the screen to take you to the camera you have to read what it says you can take one photo for as many item (s) as you have for the address.theres loads in ours taking individual photos of each item because they haven't bothered to read the screen.

If they injure them sleeves and they weren't using the LWT when they were meant to then that'll end up being a blameworthy straight away

I think the only real issues are..

1. Most of us have just gone through a revision that ignored this despite the fact they (and the union) must have known this was coming. Kinda typical.

2. It's very awkward trying to balance a bundle of mail and sometimes 2-3 parcels for the same door and take a "good" picture.

3. These PDAs are very unpredictable in poor weather.

4. I'm sick to death of being compared to other couriers, it's not the same job and I'd imagine it would be a piece of piss if all I had going up to the door was one parcel and a PDA.

Why are you trying to balance parcels? They go on doorstep, end of story.

Well, I have found a hazard when taking pictures for PCOD and dogs that was not covered.

I was delivering to an address I know well, so I placed the parcel on the door step as required, when the owners friendly border collie greeted me, sniffed the parcel, then peed on it.

I missed taking a picture of it as was would look good on the gallery, a but one picture of wet parcel and I was away highly amused.

Mail in one hand, pda in bag.

Take parcel and pda out of bag (as normal)
Scan parcel (as normal)
place parcel in front of door(as normal)
click ok buttons and get ready to take photograph
knock and ring bell on door (as normal)
retreat to end of path and turn to face door (as normal)
When door handle moves wait for crack in door to open and take picture.
say thankyou and go to next house.

Youre forgetting the surprisingly frequent amount of times the customer will not actually be in the house when you knock- for example theyve just got out of the car or come round the side of the house.

For me, the last few days have actually made me question more than ever if i can continue in this job. Im a very shy person and this whole photo capture thing just adds a level of stress for me that is on top of my already increasing levels of disillusionment with the job.

Being honest, ive already resorted to taking a photo of nothing (palm of my hand, whatever) because im just finding it too much to be having to have these awkward encounters multiple times per loop.

Try not to overthink it mate. Our Dom has just said carry on as usual, no one will even look at the pictures. You’re doing the customer the favour of delivering the item to their address. The ones I bother to scan properly and take a photo Im taking s photo pointed down as they open it, so not real any differences. I’m still safeplacing stuff for people I knows.
Nothing to be awkward about.
I doubt they will carry it on long term anyway when they see the repercussions ie. more failures, overtime, general annoyance from customers. They would be mad to, but this is Royal Mail.

If you take one photo it has to contain all of the parcels and they all have to be individually identifiable.
