Customers don't want to be hassled with a photo upon delivery.

They don't want to be hassled with signing for items either.
Should we just make up our own rules about that as well?

This whole thread is embarrassing. It is full of people moaning about having to do their job properly.
If it is going to cause so many problems people will quickly learn how to add instructions to their parcels and navigate the inflight options.

When you work under people who don't do their job properly, it sets a trend. Our entire office is at it. Customer still gets their parcel either way.

How do you know what my way of working is?

I've never had a denial of receipt. I take time and find a secure place for my customers parcels if they're not in. If such a place isn't available then 739 it is. They're never left in plain sight.

If a problem does arise then I am ready to face the consequences if I need to. I'm not living in fear of getting the sack.

Just the same as we've been doing already with Boohoo etc parcels, tell the customer I need to take a photo, then take a photo, given DPD etc already do it most customers are already familiar with the process and I've not had one query it so far. If they are out then try a helpful neighbour, otherwise issue a 739, hopefully customers will soon learn they need to nominate a safe place if they are going to be out, if not they'll keep getting 739's.

Delivery has changed so much over the past 20 years, that for some it isn't what they took on when they elected to have a 'career' with RM.

It is actually encouraged in our place mate. Got laughed at when brining back 10+ noticed tracked parcels to the DO when I first started. Management's response ''Just leave it behind a plant pot if they aren't in, or under the doormat.''

This is the culture within our office.

That is your only get out of jail free card.

You doorstep items, you're buggered. You leave items in so called safe places, you're buggered. You tell half naked customers to get some clothes on, put their dog away and open the door properly just so that you can take a decent pic might be the only plausible reason for not getting a good shot there and then, but its not going to happen every time.

Signed for tracked items don't ask for a photo they still work as always input name and it wants a signature I thought the point of this was to do away with signing.But it has to be said taking a photo with it hanging out the letterbox is the most stupid instruction ever,all that proves is I half delivered a parcel.

RM must have people reviewing the photos, if too many from any given DO look like they've been doorstepped then the DOM will get a major bollocking

Ours is pretty similar. Even management know it, just can’t be seen to be saying it. They want you to get rid of the parcels. That’s what the customer wants and ultimately what the company also wants, for right or wrong.
Even Simon said he wants “100%” first time delivery, which is a laughable pipedream, but that shows the mentality from the very top. The official way of doing things actually contradicts what they want, so it’s a lose - lose really
for OPGs and If anything goes wrong, it falls on our doorstep (no pun intended).
