Simon says a 1% increase costs £40 million.
A 4% pay rise would cost £160 million.
Less than they have spent buying back shares.
The societies of consumption and squandering of material resources are incompatible with the idea of economic growth and a clean planet.

Not even half of what they spent on super dividends. Apparently it costed £400m of royal mail profits.

Rm would have no problem raising some money towards decent pay rise if we started charging say £1 for re delivery's, as now shopping habits have changed due to pandemic and don't look like going back and the fact people are returning back to there work places the amount we now take out is stupid wasted opertunaty ( some several times ) just saying ?

I do not care what it costs out of RM's pockets
RM have made large profits (covid related or not)
They have given 100's millions in shareholder payments
They can give us a fair payrise
RM/CWU do not have a leg to stand on or any excuse (although they will make the usual pathetic lies to fob us off)
Time to pay up

If Royal Mail paid us what they paid out in dividends, that would be a 15% pay rise.

A 4% pay rise on a £400 wage is £16.
Not hard to understand why people want 10%.
Times that by however many OPGs on the payroll, about 120K?

£16 X 52 = £832

£832 X 120,000 = £99,840,000

Yeah it's only £16 lol ..

That'd be about a fifth of RM's gross profit for the year.
Glad we agree then.
The company is heading for a fall mark my words. There's too many people on the payroll for it to be sustainable long term.

Once it starts making a loss because of competition stealing market share by being more efficient and paying their staff less all the stops will be pulled on trying to save Royal Mail, ditching Parcel Force, reducing the USO to 5 maybe 4 days a week, laying people off.

It's an inverted pyramid with all the dead weight at the top. I'm sure they'll all make it down safely with their golden parachutes, though.
The machine stops.

From BBC:

War in Ukraine will push up energy prices and see UK families squeezed even further, a think tank has warned.

The Resolution Foundation forecasts that a typical household's income will fall by about £1,000 this year once the effect of inflation is accounted for.

That would be the biggest real-terms fall in incomes since the mid-1970s, it added.

A government spokesperson said it recognised the pressures households are facing.

Many families were already expecting their monthly spend to go up when the energy price cap jumps in April, and National Insurance contributions rise.

But in a new report, the Resolution Foundation said the Ukraine conflict would push up living costs even further as the prices of fuel and other goods surged.

It expects inflation, which measures how the cost of living changes over time, to peak in April at 8.3%. That is much higher the Bank of England's forecast of 7.25% back in February.

Soon an average earner will be living pay check to pay check. Potential pay rise we may get given current world economical/political situation will never be enough. I can't believe that I am saying this but Royal Mail should not be paying for all of this giving us a huge rise, which undoubtedly would be unaffordable. It is time for government to step in and put a lid on soaring livings costs. Let me be cut in VAT and erasing NI rise, they should look into personal allowances and eventually raise too. This should come on top of a pay rise in the region of 4-5% and that is something I believe company could afford. Unfortunately I am afraid the government will do sweet f-all to help people and Royal Mail will give us 2-3% at some point in late October or early November back dated. At that point many of us will be at breaking point or already in arrears accumulating debt.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

With inflation now at nearly 10% that stands to reason.
