The rate of inflation is around 6% at the moment, and will go up further.

So we should get AT LEAST 6%, or walk out.
Good luck with getting the union to agree to walking out, competition has lost you that trump card.

We will get 5% over 3 years which will be backdated because it will be around November by the time we get it. When we lose our delivery supplement and NI goes up we will only be taking home about £7 less a week than what we are now. We will get a wage decrease but don’t worry our competitors get less, arrrghhh . What competitors ? I don’t ever see anyone else delivering bundles of letters with d2ds,packets,specials and tracked. TNT or Whistle as they are now called tried it a few years ago and look what happened there.

While we are on the subject can someone tell me why Specials have to be delivered by 1pm? This sometimes puts us under extreme pressure when you have timed specials at the beginning, middle and end of a round. Why can’t they be by 3pm or by the end of the working day? Why 1pm when the majority of walks don’t finish until 3pm?
Agree the specials should be 3pm. The 1pm (or 12pm) Specials are from an era when we were finished by one. Our start times have got later but the specials have stayed the same.

the amount of money this company has made from us being deemed "key workers" and we can't even get a decent rise considering the rise in cost of living
I keep hearing about employers raising wages to make the jobs attractive as people quit in large numbers having had enough since 2020 - a shift in the balance of power toward labour. And then I wonder how in the hell it is that we're in the worst negotiating position possible after being ennobled as 'key workers' and literally carrying the country on our backs for almost two years now. If that sounds like I have a chip on my shoulder, you're damn well right and I'm not the only one.
The machine stops.

RM went to OFCOM to change the rules on specials and just have it 'next day' and it got rejected.

:funneh MPs will get a £2,212 pay rise on 1 April, seeing an MP's basic salary go up to £84,144 a year.

The 2.7% rise will come in the same week that millions of workers see their wages hit by a National Insurance increase.

Prime Minister Boris Johnson and Labour leader Sir Keir Starmer have both said MPs should not get a rise this year.

Why are MPs always first to get pay rises. It wasn't long ago they were on 75k/year.

I don't think we'll see a proper national strike ever again for that very reason, the competition will happily take up delivering royal mail's parcels.

Only maybe if RM bring mass redundancies would the public support a strike.

Heard that we are to get a 4% pay rise but as always its going to have a lot of strings attached (hitting scanned targets etc etc) the amount of money this company has made from us being deemed "key workers" and we can't even get a decent rise considering the rise in cost of living
Covid was a lifeline for Royal Mail, it covered up a lot of issues that are plaguing the company like a massive wage bill, and the unprofitable letters side.

I think we should all be prepared that things might start to look very different now people are feeling the effects of the cost of living and they are ordering fewer things. Plus depending how things pan out with Putin, a pay rise could be the least of our worries, keeping our jobs and homes could be the real struggle.

Living costs are rising rapidly. Soon we will struggle to keep our homes as many of us won't be able to keep roof over our heads. If we somehow manage, we will be sitting depressed in a cold house eating crumbs. That's how far the wage will go soon if we keep accepting pitiful pay offers.

A 4% pay rise on a £400 wage is £16.
Not hard to understand why people want 10%.

Times that by however many OPGs on the payroll, about 120K?

£16 X 52 = £832

£832 X 120,000 = £99,840,000

Yeah it's only £16 lol ..

That'd be about a fifth of RM's gross profit for the year.

According to Si, each 1% rise is 40m plus a year.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

Glad we agree then.
