What I've noticed over the last two years.
Like many our callers office was full time.
Inbetween customers our callers office chap would nip out in to the office, and spend time sorting things out, tidying up trays, york sleeves and sacks, boxing up missorts and redirections, writing out the surcharge cards, clearing out 739 items that have been expired, ordering redirection stickers and probably many other odd jobs.
None of these on their own take up that much time, but add in the running back and forth when a customer rings the doorbell, and his day was pretty much full.
Our callers office is now open for just 2 hours a day. He's in 30 minutes before it opens, so his often sorting out specials and redeliverys in-between customers.
When it closes at 10 he's out in a van delivering parcels.
When a postie is back even just 10 minutes early, they are sent out to do a parcel or two.
Where do we have the time to get all the other bits done.
Trays will be returned in whatever way the sorters stack them, redirections will be hand written until someone with computer access has time to sit down and order more stickers, and then they and missorts will sit in the office for several days until someone has the time to box them up for sending on
If them up high are going to keep taking time away to get jobs done properly or at all, them jobs ain't getting done!

Let's be honest guys, how long does it take to go to a bin, how long does it take to empty a tray in a bin, how long does it take to stick your trays in a york, and importantly, how long does it take to say to the other driver/s of your van, clear your f***ing s**t up.
I Wrote-During Covid-Which is still relevant now
It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

Time spent being photographed in Courier for vacuuming your van every day is time not spent lapsing.SpacePhoenix wrote: ↑02 Mar 2022, 20:06That's time that no one has these days, where RM have cut so many hours out of officesPOSTMAN wrote: ↑02 Mar 2022, 14:46Let's be honest guys, how long does it take to go to a bin, how long does it take to empty a tray in a bin, how long does it take to stick your trays in a york, and importantly, how long does it take to say to the other driver/s of your van, clear your f***ing s**t up.

You always have time to do your job properly.SpacePhoenix wrote: ↑02 Mar 2022, 20:06

You may not have time to complete your duty but you always have time to do it properly.
The societies of consumption and squandering of material resources are incompatible with the idea of economic growth and a clean planet.

That probably explains why people are in such as rush they miss the facilities in the gents, much to the dismay of the cleaner.
And it saves posties 30 microseconds to leave trays in a mess next to an empty york rather than put them in the york...

About as long as it takes to remove expired redirections.POSTMAN wrote: ↑02 Mar 2022, 14:46Let's be honest guys, how long does it take to go to a bin, how long does it take to empty a tray in a bin, how long does it take to stick your trays in a york, and importantly, how long does it take to say to the other driver/s of your van, clear your f***ing s**t up.
