How about we actually start charging them for mail they send to the wrong MC.
Secondly they could buy their own damn trays.
They already do get charged. Any DSA that's not for the area covered by your MC should go to Revenue Protection

We have trays scattered all over our car park some been out their for months, pity RM do not have a place you can tip them off with your complaints & problems, anonymous if needed?
Why don't you bung them in a york to go back to the MC, if you don't need them?

I get plenty from other MCs that have clearly not been charged.

It's like elastic bands and 739's left in HCT's/pouches or removing expired re-dirs or notifying admin
that more redir labels are required, or refuelling the wagon and taking your crisp packets and drinks bottles
out of the door pockets or or or........it's somebody else's job.

SIMON SAYS: Remember, Team, please don't take the piss - it is the job of senior managers to s**t all over the business.

Good One DGH. I nearly ignored it as I thought is was a Genuine "Simple Simon Says" briefing. :d'oh!

I'm sure we can look forward to a four page handout about cleaning trays in the near future. Something with a snappy mnemonic (RM like a mnemonic) perhaps CRAP ? ... Clean .... Return .... As .... Perfectly Hygenic as possible, bearing in mind you've got no cleaning kit, and even less time and even less interest? The last one might need a bit of work on. :cuppa

or removing expired re-dirs
Before the redirection labels got changed to their current format you could see at a glance if the redirection had expired. It was very rare to get one that had expired but you could write expired on it and send it back to the DO. There was once a redirection that had expired over half a year ago

DSA Business Case Manager

Further Serious Tray Hygiene Complaints from Downstream Access Customers - Please take Action now

We have received another serious tray hygiene complaint, this time a filthy tray containing jagged pieces of broken glass was given to one of our Access customers, a situation which had the potential to cause significant harm. This is therefore to remind you all again of the need to play your part in ensuring that trays are supplied in a safe and hygienic condition

It is simply not acceptable for trays covered in dirt, inside and out, and containing dangerous items to be given to our customers. Please also bear in mind that these trays could just as easily be handled in our own network; filthy, unsafe trays endanger colleagues as well as customers. There is no excuse for this situation so we are asking again that everybody does their bit to ensure that Royal Mail colleagues and customers are not put at risk through handling dangerous trays.

Please follow these straightforward Presentation Standards: Just by turning trays upside down individually before stacking them we believe we would eliminate circa 90% of complaints

Mail Centres - Trays before Handover to DSA carriers should be checked and correctly stacked before 141 swaps take place. If they are not upside down with labels removed, this must be done in the MC as per the Quality gate before handover. Note any non-compliant DOs from the labels in the trays and feed this back to aid compliance.

Mail Centres - Surplus trays after 141 Swaps must also be stacked upside down before repatriating to an RDC to ensure they are ready and fit for customer use. Not all trailers are unloaded in an RDC and may go direct to high volume customer in the condition they were loaded in.

Deliveries - Trays are to be tipped, labels removed, turned individually upside down and stored upside down (48 per York) after Mail is tipped at IPS and at the RM2000 frames. Deliveries - DOMs and ADOMs to ensure trays presented to distribution for repatriation in the designated areas maintain this compliance, if they are NOT they should not be repatriated.

Local Distribution - Repatriate only compliant trays in the correct format (Upside down with labels removed) back to the MC. This will ensure the MC receives correctly stacked and clean trays for handover to the access carriers and customers.

Please take action now to resolve this serious and ongoing problem as there is a risk of financial sanctions, reputational damage, customer complaints about Quality and Mail Integrity and the very real possibility that a colleague or customer could suffer physical harm.

If trays are stacked upside down and the trays in the middle have debris in them how does stacking them upside down prevent this?

If you follow the guidance - individually turned upside down and stacked - then there isn't any debris left.
The societies of consumption and squandering of material resources are incompatible with the idea of economic growth and a clean planet.

If only we had time to unstack and re-stack boxes individually

I wonder how much of the debris left in a tray, is after someone has emptied the van of all the cans, sandwich wrappers, coffee cups, bottles, rancid banana peels into a tray.

Then they have just emptied it into a bin, and because they were fed up, anything stuck in the tray they leave rather than having to clean that up too.

The state of some vans make them look like a wheelie bin and I have no idea how they can work in them or leave them like it.
Everything will be OK in the end, If it's not OK, then its not the end.

Unless a tray has a massive crack in it, it'll get used. We don't have the time to go through the trays

It would make no difference, they would only be left out again the next day, management not interested.

I'll put my hand up and admit to having done this a few times over the years.

Late out, van filled in the torrential rain and open cab door to be greeted by the contents of a skip. Grab a perstop, fill it with said contents and then eye the bins in the distance at the other end of the yard. Nope, just dump it here and crack on.

It's not right, I give you that, but as we all know, some mornings it can be the last straw.
Sooner or later, a beat dog bites.
