4 for us has been for years 4 sequenced then the same 4 manual.
How do you manage that? You'd have 8 trays of mech to put in on average to start with in my office and then at least a couple of trays of loose and what about the d2ds? How much indoor time have you got?
Locally I reckon it's an average of 4 boxes max per walk for sequenced, both aves combined. Don't know if it's just down to the normal post Xmas drop-off but it's got to the point recently where tbqf it's not been worth sequencing any wave 2 batches, sometimes it's been barely worth even walk sorting a few batches

it shouldn't be the number of walks prepped but the amount to be put in,
i consider myself pretty quick and see some others painfully slow,
there is a technique to it and i see some picking sequenced mail 1 letter a time from the deck rather than holding a handful, honestly it's very frustrating,
seen some in a big storm-proof coat and their bag on back too :left:
1 thing to consider though is if they're left handed

Our start time is 7.05 the sheet tells you your 4 to prep it tells you how long it should take to prep duty 123 and 4 sequenced, this varies daily.second half of the sheet says how long the manual should take for the 4 dutys.so usually from 7.05 till 8.00 or 8.30 busy days.d2d is done by the duty holder the previous day which we have to sort around.and I know that's not the correct way but it's the way it's done.

PT. Come in an hour after, given 3 duties to prep to completion, with a later starter ptmer.
But. ... It changes, duties that were full time with full time prep become PT duties when I'm on them. No one helping out after the IPS. Just me until a 9 o'clock starter arrives... usually to s**t loads of prep.

However are you aware that Simon Thompson via workplace and via a proposal wants to trial that all manual IPS letters , flats are prepped in the mail centre.

The CWU are opposed to this as it will mean the only manual work in a delivery unit will be parcels and the work from the mail centre will come into the delivery later meaning later starts.

It will also impact on attendance patterns , full time jobs and part timers wanting to increase their hours.

Out of interest how would that ever be workable?

Where are the mail centres going to put all the frames to prep the mail for all the different offices they serve? This has all the feel of starting to drip feed the members all the worst case scenarios so when the union secures a 1% pay rise and not too many strings attached, much back slapping and fanfares will follow and the deal of the century will be endorsed by the members. This merry go round we get on every other year is exhausting.

It wouldnt be

Just the usual 'worst case scenario' picture painting by the union as usual so whatever is agreed looks good

Remember the multipocketed mail jacket :chuckle
If you tolerate this, then your paid break will be next

This the model which Sweden and Holland use now.

The multi pouch option was defeated by the CWU following trials as was resource scheduler.

This is a proposal for trial. Remember each mail centre is going lose work as a result of the parcel hub roll out and further jobs as a result of the roll out of parcel sorting machines.

You've said on another thread that after the new super sorting parcel machines finish doing there bit they will then have to be manually sorted at another delivery office. So work might be going from MC but by the sound of it there will be plenty to go round at delivery offices that are mainly understaffed as it is

D2ds should not be done previous day, it completely fxcks up the duty hours

City poste the main delivery office would have to break the parcels down into the different delivery offices. However if you remove all your letters and flats from being IPS and prepped that is a significant amount of workload.

How exactly would it be workable for example for our local mail centre to prep all the manual letters and flats for roughly 280 deliveries across about 4 delivery offices they cover? Genuine question because I can't think of anyway that It could be done

Mail centres mostly can't even sequence the correct levels of letters. What is going to change to allow them to suddenly have time to sequence 75% letters, walksort the remaining 25% to correct delivery. Walksort all flats then put that into a delivery order then deliver that intact to a delivery office. In a big DO of say 100 deliveries it takes on average 50-70 people to walksort manual letters and flats and prep 100 deliveries in say 2 hours from 7-9 in the morning. Most of these people know the walksorting and their prep frames well and sort at a good speed. Now multiply that up for each delivery office a mail centre serves. The numbers are mind boggling. Even if they had the space for every prep frame in there service area the number of people needed to do this in even say 4 hours is astronomical and the skills and knowledge required is just not in MCs. Unless I'm missing a piece of information this is a complete non starter. When will someone take Simon to one side and actually explain what goes on at a delivery office.

Walksorting flats will never happen as only a few MCs have got FSMs.

For mech letters the walk sort/sequencing of wave 2 gets started whilst the IMPs/iLSMs are still running plan 1. If your batch is an early one then you can quite easily get over a box worth of manual where more work has been sorted to the batch after it has been run. To allow the iLSMs/IMPs ton complete running plan 1 before the walk sequencing/sort of wave 2 starts, you'd have to put the walk sequencing/sort of wave 2 back, probably a couple of hours, meaning that final dispatches would need to be put back as well

Unless the hubs have at least 470-480 outputs on their machines then the parcels are still going to have to be re-sorted at MCs. Some DOs that cover multiple postcode areas get a split for them areas so again it would need to be resorted at the MCs

MCs won't the room or the staff for it to happen. For some MCs you'd need 1,000+ frames which would mean that MCs would need to be massively increased in size to many times their current size
