Re: Simon wants delivery working around the clock?
So 5.2 hours will include 6 hours work, because that is the RM way.
Morning postie goes out with their 6 hours work to fit into 5.2 hours and decides to stay out and complete. Afternoon postie turns up but doesn't have a van because morning postie is still out there. So afternoon postie hangs around doing very little until morning postie turns up, afternoon postie now has less than 5 hours to fit his 6.2 hour duty into - knowing that there is actually 7 hours work to be done.
And I don't know how this will ensure we deliver when the customer is in - does afternoon postie take out the stuff that morning postie couldn't deliver because people weren't in!
This clown takes being a f**k wit to totally new levels.

Bring back Rico
Has the CWU been involved in the halving of the fleet discussions.?Thought not...this guy is dangerous. We need to mobilise and show him we're not interested in his race to the bottom to try and be like all the other couriers out there. Please Terry stand up and tell us you're doing something about this clown.

You will be massively disappointed if your counting on Terry Pullinger or his other high up CWU croneys to save us from any of Simons crazy schemes. Retirement on a huge pension built by his criminal 100k+ salary is in his sight so I highly doubt Terry can be bothered to rock the boat. Local reps are mostly good but go further up the CWU food chain then as the great comedian George Carlin said “it’s a big club, and you ain’t in it”jessicarabbit wrote: ↑22 Feb 2022, 15:23Bring back Rico

All I think this really needs is the return of drop boxes.
A couple of minibus to drop posties off at the first point and then bigger vans to do parcels.

It's too late, when you look at the changes in the last couple of years you realise how long RM had been stagnant.jessicarabbit wrote: ↑22 Feb 2022, 15:23Bring back Rico

No matter how much i wouldn't want a later start/finish you have to accept that vans parked up doing nothing is a huge waste of money

Re: Simon wants delivery working around the clock?
Well surely the letter and small 2d (letterboxable) pkt sorting only could be 6am-7am,the letters only delivery go out early (7am- 10am).
Hold all the parcels back and bring the lats forward so they meet at say 10;30am in a DO 10;30am-1pm parcel only sorting (FT staff done)
Then back out on parcel delivery only at 1pm -6pm? (PT staff done)

Re: Simon wants delivery working around the clock?
I would think all start times will be pushed back with all mail/parcels arriving together instead of the 2 waves we currently get.
Lots of things to be clarified yet and many an argument coming up at delivery offices up and down the UK

Si
change in working pattern - as a for instance - in places if we started three (perhaps less) hours later in the morning - we wouldn’t need to fly 1c mail - limited/no customer impact + lower CO2 + £millions cost save - which we could spend on better things - like more new vans…

Re: Simon wants delivery working around the clock?
If we start 3 hours later . . . say even at 9.30 (to be optimistic as lovely Simon says we should be). And say we arrive at that promised land of a 35 hour week and so 7 hour days.
First shift will have to be 9.30 - 4.30. So even with a bit of time warp magic, it's hard to see the second shift starting earlier than 3.30pm (allowing an hour to route their parcels before the vans are back - if they have any PDAs available . . .). So, presuming a 7 hour shift, then delivering packets until 10.30pm (or at least finishing then).
It only really makes any sense time-wise if the first shift starts earlier, not later. Or if the second shift use their own vans. Or it makes complete sense if the USO is amended and we only need to deliver mail every other day - something we've been rehearsing assiduously since the revisions. Because then shift one could walk straight in, tie up and go out and deliver, then come back and prep for shift 2. Shift two come in, tie up and deliver, then prep for shift one to do in the morning.

Re: Simon wants delivery working around the clock?
I wonder if Simon has just given away the company’s stance regarding our deserved pay rise and shorter week.
It was only afew months ago we had the Xmas van cock up and this looks to be the solution
The thing is Simon, is that getting finished at a “reasonable” time is the reason most people work on delivery’s, I don’t doubt you will get more “bums on seats” when all your experienced staff leave but bums on seats is all you will have.

2 days mail and small packets mon, weds, fri, sun, tues, thurs, sat, then mon,weds.... So longer days as we are only working 3 days a week.
35 hours would be 11.5 hours a day ( 6am -530pm)
30 hours would be 10 hours a day ( 730am-530pm)
25 hours would be 8.5hrs a day (9am-530pm)
Larger packets go out when the vans come back each day (after 530pm) for tracked 24/specials (which are going to guarenteed that day delivery)

Didn't they take bag boxes out just as ebay started in earnest?2yearpostie wrote: ↑22 Feb 2022, 15:32All I think this really needs is the return of drop boxes.

Ever since then packets have been an issue.
It's almost as if RM have no idea what they're doing.
It's come full circle and has been obvious from day 1 that van share doesn't work.
Crew bus, 6 or 7 in van dropped off in a broad area, then bags done and back for firms and large parcels.
Super Si would certainly get rid of some vans if we went back that and I reckon most posties would be much happier.
It worked back then, the only difference now is you'd need more packets drivers as there's so many more packets.
The only issue back then was arguing with the driver which packets you threw out.

Did I read that right....delivering 2 days worth of mail and small packets on a Sunday with a 5.30pm finish!!?? F**k that
On the face of it, shareholder value is the dumbest idea in the world.
