Yes possibly, he said we do not deliver so peeps can come to the caller's office to collect, hence the 100% 1st time comment.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

Of course, with delivery, we do need to think of both customers, that's the posting customer or the retailer, and the receiving customer the doorstep.TopperGas wrote: ↑15 Feb 2022, 10:23Not as far as Simon's concerned when he refers to the postie & KYC when referring to his role, unless I'm completely misreading what he's saying.SpacePhoenix wrote: ↑15 Feb 2022, 07:08The customer is the person/business sending an item, not the person/business receiving itTopperGas wrote: ↑14 Feb 2022, 22:16What's the point in KYC if in future you can't leave a parcel in the safe place you've used for years if they've not requested it via an inflight request? Because it gets dark and you can't see where you're going....this is why.2yearpostie wrote: ↑14 Feb 2022, 15:57So on another thread Super Si is complaining the vans are only used for 6 hours a day.
Looks like hes trying to eye up a way to use them round the clock which I guess would mean later delivery times for some of us.
How do feel about this 'team' ???

I agree, rural LAT's at 10pm in winter are a nightmare, no streetlights, no house numbers/names....norris9 wrote: ↑17 Feb 2022, 22:11Because it gets dark and you can't see where you're going....this is why.2yearpostie wrote: ↑14 Feb 2022, 15:57So on another thread Super Si is complaining the vans are only used for 6 hours a day.

Re: Simon wants delivery working around the clock?
Not going to happen because many people still have a Royal Mail "please return items you can't deliver to the delivery office" sticker on their letterbox!!
On the face of it, shareholder value is the dumbest idea in the world.

Right now we are never going to have a 100% delivery first time
The business has already brought out age verification items that require only that customer to be present to receive it and there are parcels that specifically require a photo on the doorstep with an open door. Sod the safe place option on that one. Our office also recently spent thousands of pounds building a new callers office.
Them stickers are for the customers benefit and we should give them that choice
On the face of it, shareholder value is the dumbest idea in the world.

Simon Thompson has been saying they are planning on getting rid of 50% of the fleet. We only use them for 5 hours a day and he wants 10 so 2 shifts and 50% of fleet gone.

Re: Simon wants delivery working around the clock?
OPG
how long till all the final mile delivery fleet is all electric.
Si
we are going as fast as the £money will allow us - next step change is to half the fleet size - by increasing utilisation from 5.2 hours to 10.4 hours a day - and also making sure we deliver when customers are in…
OPG
how is the 5.2 hours a day calculated?
Si
at peak usage is 6.2 hours - 26 minutes of the in-use time is idling (warming up) at the start of a duty - lowest level of asset utilisation I have ever seen - and this is 6 days a week - if we added a Sunday, the numbers reduce further…
if we double utilisation - so only need half the number of current vans - optimistically - no more then 30 more months - dependent on how much money we make & can spend - soon we will have the biggest EV fleet in the UK…
OPG
will you be doing this with the existing staff ? The frontline is stretched as it is .
Si
change in working pattern - as a for instance - in places if we started three (perhaps less) hours later in the morning - we wouldn’t need to fly 1c mail - limited/no customer impact + lower CO2 + £millions cost save - which we could spend on better things - like more new vans…
OPG
what happened to family friendly hours ?
Si
by being more flexible - we should be able to accommodate more of the people - more of the time - one of the problems we have with part time work is - at times it isn’t - which is far from friendly for those that want to do it - lets see where we get to - but fundamentally, we needs to cover 24/7 and deliver when customers are in - because that is a what the competition do already - and have done for years….
OPG
the competition don’t deliver letters and unaddressed leaflets
Si
True
we need to deliver when customers are in - so two duties a day - I was speaking to one of the posties the other week - he said we used to have three shifts a day….
I believe in a nominated safe place as much as you do - KYC - know your customer…
we need to change delivery - now urgent and important

Hold the phone.
He wants us out twice a day. But wants to half the fleet size?
Computer says no on that one.
