Posties pair up as yobs attack

POSTIES have to deliver letters in pairs on a Barnsley estate after stone throwing yobs turned it into a "no go" area.
Bosses took the unusual step of sending staff out in twos after the yobs targeted the postman on his rounds in the Welland Crescent area of Elsecar.

They also halted deliveries for five days - leaving residents fuming because they say they weren't told that their service had been suspended.

Pete Down, of Welland Crescent, said he had to go to Wombwell sorting office to pick up his mail.

He said: "I've been down and fetched the post from Wombwell and they said the postman had been under attack from kids throwing stones.

"They said it was a 'no go' area and just gave me mine and my neighbour's post."

Pete's wife Amanda, aged 44, said she was annoyed that residents had not been told about the situation.

She said: "We haven't had any post since it snowed and all I've heard is that it's because the kids were throwing things at the postman. I don't know why they would as he's a lovely guy.

"The thing that has really annoyed me is that they haven't let us know anything. It would have been nice to have been notified. They must deliver to worse areas than this."

Neighbour Rachel Burns said her family had been waiting for a new gas meter card to be delivered. She said: "The chip in the gas card broke and I called British Gas who said they would send a new one but we never got it.

"I didn't even know they had stopped delivering. I've kept having to ring the gas company to get emergency credit."

A Royal Mail spokesman said the incident had been reported to police and deliveries had restarted, but the postman was now accompanied by a member of staff.

He added: "The safety of our staff is paramount.

"Therefore, deliveries in welland Crescent, Elsecar were temporarily suspended between Friday January 4 and Wednesday January 9 following a stone throwing attack on one of our delivery staff. The incident has been reported to the police."

Instead of moaning about not getting any mail why don't they make an attempt to find out who's brats are behind it and get the parents to put a stop to it?

Nice to see Bob Mills again , my mate's girlfriend is from Stanley , seems to be no hurry to go back there !, what a awful familly ,that woman who needs a Bra should be humanely destroyed like some of the dogs terrorising posties mentioned on this site . Evolution in reverse , famillies of in-bred slack jawed mutants . What a s***-hole of a estate .

I also have a pre-payment meter, and what you fail to realise, is that if you don't have a card, you can't put credit on it. If you run out of credit, you are instantly cut off, until you DO put some on. Would you, like to be left without any Gas?!?!?

If the DOM had, had the sense to inform the Residents, they could have turned up to collect their Post if it was urgent. Instead, they were left in the lurch.

Even more importantly: why are they sending an extra Postie out on the round. Have either of them had any training in dealing with this type of situation?
I seriously doubt it!

They should have arranged for a Police escort. Or at the very least, a properly trained Bodyguard. But that, or course, costs more money. Unfortunately that's the bottom line with RM. They would rather endanger two Posties, so that they could claim that they are taking the situation seriously. Rather than actually DO something effective about it!

DIM's can fix the hole!

Post by POSTMAN »

If 'TWO' lowly posties can do it then 'ONE' super duper and all that jazz DIM can do it!!!

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

Amazing, RM's answer is to send out 2 postman. More for the yobs to throw at.

It regulary happens on one of our driving duties, when they are off (if they ever go to) school. Our manager laughed and thought it was funny.

I also included it in a questionaire that was given to me. The question was something like" are you subject to violence and intimidation" I said yes and explained the situation. My manager told me not to be stupid and gave me another one to fill out. I threw that one in the bin.

Its all too much trouble for them.

An announcement could have been put in the Local Press, and announced on Local Radio. At least some of them would have recieved the message. Then they could have passed the message on to the others.

This is an important Service that we provide. It's about time that RM management realised that!
