Have you done the maths on that £40 a week? How will that amount take us to break even?arsenalbob wrote: ↑31 Jan 2022, 20:36We will need a rise of £40 a week just to break even with April’s hikes. That’s not including the big increases in petrol and diesel.

Re: Payrise
Living wage rise is 6.6%. Surely that is that target rate for all working people?

Re: Payrise
Most yes say f**k that I agree, but not all! Another agency guy and I do at least 6 days every week, often 7 and pre xmas was doing long 11+ hour shifts till 9 and 10pm. Some of us can manage it, but i do agree if people have never done manual labour type work then then no doubt find it hard.Surreypostie wrote: ↑27 Jan 2022, 18:47I don't think we will get a payrise at all. I wish we could keep staff they recruit to take off some of the pressure. Our pay rate used to be ok for our skill level but now they turn up, say f*** that and leave. They all think you still finish at lunchtime. We need a massive payrise if we are going to recruit new people but it isn't going to happen.

Re: Payrise
The pay rise will be minimal. They’ll almost certainly tag it to a shorter working week. Anyone remember the flight path to 35hr/week?
All full time jobs will go to 35hrs with no loss of pay, so an effective pay rise of approx 5% on the hourly rate. imho

Couple of guys in my office, one used to be a roofer and the other worked on the roads. Both say that overall those jobs were far easier than being a postie, and they feel far more fatigued and exhausted after work now. I suppose itll be different for everyone.Norfolk 'N' Chance wrote: ↑31 Jan 2022, 23:08Most yes say f**k that I agree, but not all! Meanwhile, back in the real world....
All you've got to remember is that whatever %age is put forward, the company will want something back in return, normally taken from terms and conditions which are slowly and surely being eroded away as the years tick by.

Apart from the christmas period we normally have five agency staff covering sundays they start at ten thirty and are normally finished by one oclock i kid you not, six hours pay plus manager wages, also our collection point is open for five hours in the last two sundays a total of 22 customers have turned up , royal mail must be losing money .

“Average annual earnings for full-time employees in the UK 2021, by region.
The average annual salary for full-time workers in London in 2021 was over £39700 a year,
compared with £27500 for workers in North East England, which was the lowest in the United Kingdom in 2021”
We do not even earn an average wage!
Yet shareholders get £400 million.

Re: Payrise
London workers get a higher rate due to "Cost of living!" I think it's time EVERYONE regardless of whatever region they live get the same. We are ALL going to be hit in the pocket because of the increase to "Cost of living!!!".

Re: Payrise
The day we have to work a sunday is the day I quit.
My mate has just jumped ship from being a postie to working on the bins. They work full time Tuesday to friday with a 3 day weekend every week. The pay is probably a £1 less an hour than us but its job and knock, once you have done your round its game over until tomorrow. He says its equally as tough as RM but with there being no indoor work there is much less stress and no bullying managers on your back.
