How many days does each postie get to decide on a duty on that sheet? Is it 3 days like the holiday sheet ?

Usually the duties would go on 'the wall' for a while, perhaps a week or longer depending on the timeline.
During that time all hell breaks loose, every duty is s**t, even the peeps who have been there for 50yrs plus and were involved in some decisions, there are tears everywhere, Sarmatians are on speed dial.
A lot of chin rubbing and possible personal spread sheets editing goes on.
If Bob signs for this, then Sally would probably sign for that, Nigel could possibly sign for that one, where Jim would deffo sign for.......
Then....it ....happens......
The 50yr peeps stay on their duties and are spoken to by the rep for about a mili second, the middle senior peeps either jump for joy or regularly face palm themselves cause they 'just feckin missed out' on their dream duty cause fecking Dave, completely bamboozled everyone with his choice.
Some junior bods kinda knew the score so they suck it up, the rest just start cutting their wrists.
Could possibly take a week or 2 depending on whether some feckers had the audacity to go on holiday ffs!
Then it goes live, good times.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

I agree with all your points TBT. Anybody that has ever had decent leadership just pulls their hair in frustration at the way RM works. Supervisors indeed ... NOT Managers .... because Managers ... MANAGE . These Clowns are incapable.TrueBlueTerrier wrote: ↑20 Dec 2021, 11:16Interesting, would you trust your present manager do to it competently, never mind without bias, and would they consider the capabilities, weaknesses and strengths of each person.
In the forces, I had to do yearly reviews, and it isn't easy. I personally don't think Royal Mail would be able to do it without radical changes in how they train their managers, and I think they need to add the missing ingredient. Leadership.
We've got a perfect storm brewing .... a New Manager arriving and a Full Office Revision in the next Finacial year.
Returning to the subject of Managers: Apparently the Area Rep said RM like to recruit Managers from outside the Business, because then they have no idea how a DO works and the Area Manager can BS him and bully him into making cuts & savings!

That feeling as the pick gets closer to you, and then the bastard before you nicks the duty you were after!
I'm sure the reason we still have several Monster Duties (that never seem to get smaller during revisions) is that the Duty holders figure, "If it's a Monster Duty then nobody's going to want to sign for it"
Just goes to show the difference when OPGs actually do the job "Properly" and how carving up a duty gives false information on duty structures.

He just forgot the bit where everyone thinks they have a right to see Bill's medical record so they can be sure he can use the Equality Act to bypass the seniority list.
The societies of consumption and squandering of material resources are incompatible with the idea of economic growth and a clean planet.

Admitedly the Ring Fenced Duties do cause some problems. How many are genuine, and how many are historical "Favours" from the DOM?clashcityrocker wrote: ↑18 Jan 2022, 12:10

Rightly, or wrongly, we challenged one DOM because we thought a particular lad was trying it on. He was the DOMs mate, he was doing the PHG/Cage job and he would NEVER leave the office to help out. Even when we were desperate.(Coincidentally he used to do most of the DOMs paperwork for him during the day when he'd knocked off early).
When we asked why he couldn't do anything to help out, like emptying a Post Office, or delivering a few parcels, the DOM said, "Well he's got a bad knee"
"What like about 90% of the office have? It doesn't seem to affect him when he's out on his Mountain Bike at the weekends"
I'm glad to say he's now got a LWT loop around the office. The excercise seems to have helped his "Bad Knee" no end.

In a MC or MPU I believe that there's also TPM money to factor in
