I've just read an article in PRAVDA - sorry, my mistake - Courier.

It's on page six and concerns the trialling of hand-held devices for recording special and recorded deliveries.
Whilst the intentions are good and the perceived advantages of such equipment in no doubt, I would like to offer a word of warning.

If the same people do the trialling for this equipment as did the Magnum footwear that has been recently dumped on an unsuspecting workforce then we will end up with something that barely fits in a large rucsack, has to be plugged in at each customers home and electrocutes the postman using it every time it rains.

AND.................... can be programmed to read gas and elec. meters...........My DOM told me a while ago as every postman/woman delivers to every house within a week, RM will try to get the franchise to do this.

And you will be held responsible for it's safe return to the office no job and finnish because it can be tracked. YOU MUST ALL DO YOUR JOB'S PROPERLY FOR YOUR OWN SAKE NOW!.

I do not think any damage to royalmail equipment will be tollarated for to long ie disapliary procedures no we all have to work smarter and DO THE JOB PROPERLY!.

If the tracking information came back by radio waves. as with the telemetry devices on vehicles, yes there is the possibility of knowing where someone is. My point would be if you have nothing to hide then why get so annoyed. Also for this to be implemented RM would not use the trakcing information about you.

I agree RM need to earn your trust, and at the moment it is clear they don't have yours, but sometimes they are attempting to do things that will improve the service

Are you going to charge the (PDA) at your home at your expence and if they do trust us why do they use vast's amounts of money on pegasus ?.

I think I may well decline the offer to use these devices.

Every other week there is something or other in the newspapers about the dangers of using mobile phones .
The boffins still cant tell the public if Mobiles are safe or not ,so what chance have we got of dropping down dead with radation poisoning

Like mobiles I had heard that they have the ability to scramble the old brain cells - fortunately it is only posties who are using them so it is already too late.
