Doorstepping packets
Instead of filling out a p739 once the item is scanned and you scroll through to not delivered, and submit, why can’t the customer get all the details sent to them via email / text. If customer is elderly and do not have access t text or email, then use a p739. Am I missing something, and making a stupid suggestion? This would save so much time for us posties, money in excess payments by Royal Mail, and save a fortune in printing of dockets. I can only see Royal Mail have not kept up with technology

Re: Doorstepping packets
How do you know if there elderly or not? What about young people who don’t use text or email, it’s not our decision to assume anything just do the job as required, each walk has a designated amount of time for writing cards out, so don’t worry about it, do it properly and if it takes way longer speak to the manager who can advise you what’s best to do either leave parcels and cut off or claim overtime

Re: Doorstepping packets
Because the dumbass public think it’s ok to keep ordering parcels they have no intention of being home for despite receiving emails and texts well in advance instructing them how to manage the delivery. It really couldn’t be easier and I’ve posted on this subject before . I believe Royal Mail should be investing more time and money in educating the public as it would save them money in the long run .Selhurst wrote: ↑28 Dec 2021, 18:33Instead of filling out a p739 once the item is scanned and you scroll through to not delivered, and submit, why can’t the customer get all the details sent to them via email / text. Generally when people order stuff online, they don't have any say as to whether RM or another courier is used. With every courier probably now giving 2hr time slots and the ability to see where the driver is on a map, they probably expect that as standard. Like it or not, at some point RM will have no choice but to offer the same ability if they want the trade

It’s not hard to designate a safe place , Choose a neighbour or use inflight to pick a day for delivery that you are at home .SpacePhoenix wrote: ↑28 Dec 2021, 21:07Do you really think that people are going to wait in all day?chickenwittle wrote: ↑28 Dec 2021, 20:58Because the dumbass public think it’s ok to keep ordering parcels they have no intention of being home for despite receiving emails and texts well in advance instructing them how to manage the delivery. Re: Doorstepping packets
Doubtful that they'd put a "safeplace" that could be classed as a safe place
Do you really expect that neighbour to wait in all day either?
Again, do you expect them to wait in all day?chickenwittle wrote: ↑28 Dec 2021, 21:19use inflight to pick a day for delivery that you are at home .
Not everyone can have a day when they can be in all day. Maybe we should have full deliveries on Sundays?

Re: Doorstepping packets
I don’t disagree Royal Mail need to get with the times but you are making a lot of excuses for people not receiving parcels , it’s not rocket science, my family manage to do it when we receive text , email to alert us of delivery. The truth is the public can’t be bothered or just have no awareness of the facility to manage their delivery.SpacePhoenix wrote: ↑28 Dec 2021, 21:49Doubtful that they'd put a "safeplace" that could be classed as a safe place

Re: Doorstepping packets
How many people even know about the email and text alerts? Given how many "scam emails and texts" there are, many people might not trust any delivery alertschickenwittle wrote: ↑28 Dec 2021, 22:06I don’t disagree Royal Mail need to get with the times but you are making a lot of excuses for people not receiving parcels , it’s not rocket science, my family manage to do it when we receive text , email to alert us of delivery. Re: Doorstepping packets
you don't need it to ping a text or email....
the customer should just keep checking for tracking updates which will tell them where their parcel is....
when they see it's been taken back to the sorting office they re arrange delivery or come and collect it....
If people these days don't have the internet then it's their fault.... if they don't...they can always assume that after a few days their parcel has been taken back to a sorting office.
Saves us time, saves trees, saves money.
or they could get a parcel bin.
For sure we should be moving away from using the red slips and doing the above.

Re: Doorstepping packets
An ideal solution is to create parcel lockers so customers will have that as an option using texted or emailed code to open it up, creating a network of them round the country, in secure locations like outside sorting offices, supermarkets and shopping centres would be a big step forward in customer accessability especially if they're trying to juggle a busy life with children, shopping and work especially unsociable hours.

Absolutely this, or RM could sell branded parcel bins to domestic addresses.NWpostie wrote: ↑29 Dec 2021, 19:06An ideal solution is to create parcel lockers so customers will have that as an option using texted or emailed code to open it up, creating a network of them round the country, in secure locations like outside sorting offices, supermarkets and shopping centres would be a big step forward in customer accessability especially if they're trying to juggle a busy life with children, shopping and work especially unsociable hours.
This is the sort of thing they should be looking at, trialling and investing in...not drones and twattish looking electric buggies and carts.

Re: Doorstepping packets
If they want to do that they will have to put dedicated parcel deliveries in for any parcels delivered by that service. It just won't work with the system at the moment. Of course if they can sack the USO off and become a parcel only company they could do it and that's their wet dreamSpacePhoenix wrote: ↑28 Dec 2021, 21:07Do you really think that people are going to wait in all day?chickenwittle wrote: ↑28 Dec 2021, 20:58Because the dumbass public think it’s ok to keep ordering parcels they have no intention of being home for despite receiving emails and texts well in advance instructing them how to manage the delivery. Absolutely agree, RM even have the locations in place throughout the country but just like everything else we're lagging well behind playing catch-up.NWpostie wrote: ↑29 Dec 2021, 19:06An ideal solution is to create parcel lockers so customers will have that as an option using texted or emailed code to open it up, creating a network of them round the country, in secure locations like outside sorting offices, supermarkets and shopping centres would be a big step forward in customer accessability especially if they're trying to juggle a busy life with children, shopping and work especially unsociable hours.

Re: Doorstepping packets
Doesn't RM already do something similar with Local Collect? It doesn't seem that popular to me as, at most, I only deliver the odd parcel a week to the PO on my round.ted_e_bear wrote: ↑29 Dec 2021, 20:00Absolutely agree, RM even have the locations in place throughout the country but just like everything else we're lagging well behind playing catch-up.NWpostie wrote: ↑29 Dec 2021, 19:06An ideal solution is to create parcel lockers so customers will have that as an option using texted or emailed code to open it up, creating a network of them round the country, in secure locations like outside sorting offices, supermarkets and shopping centres would be a big step forward in customer accessability especially if they're trying to juggle a busy life with children, shopping and work especially unsociable hours.
