Need advice on this urgently! Supposed to be training in the New Year. 2M rule in place here but manager says that CWU have agreed to suspend it for van sharing and training?
Really really not happy to share a van for 6 hours with a non mask wearing kid who will spend the whole of Xmas in the pub.
I've avoided any close contact for two years this is really stressing me out!

Unless you are the workplace coach, training is optional.
If you are the workplace coach your concerns regarding H&S should be taken into consideration.
The CWU cannot unilaterally decide to suspend the 2m rule for van sharing and training.
I think your manager is bullshitting you but asking the CWU might be a good place to start.
If they have agreed to suspend the 2m rule suspending our subs might be the best place to start.
If you are the workplace coach your concerns regarding H&S should be taken into consideration.

'Driver training' was temporarily canceled during the height of the pandemic, It started again as per this in May...

Royal Mail Group – Re-Introduction of Driver In-Cab Training in All Vehicles and Update on The Road Map Out Of Lockdown: (Includes New Driver Induction Training & Post Accident Driver Training etc., – Managing Occupational Road Risk)
And HGV agency driver 'extra training from Royal Mail bods' was canceled for the xmas period.
There has been from my knowledge and posting of LTB's etc nothing about anything canceled and not being able to train new starters and defo nothing on canceling the 2m rule!

Driver training, or training after an accident is completely different to spending 6 hours in a van training on a duty.
Learning a rural duty involves continuous oral communication and therefore risky in transmitting an air born virus.

Trying to not be pedantic but for all those concerned about van sharing, what is the situation like in your office? Is there social distancing, things getting wiped every 5 mins, everyone wearing a mask, and all the other anti Covid measures etc ect ect

Not being pedantic but working in our office is not the same as sharing a van! I'm fully vaccinated and I'm sure my immune system would cope but not sure my partner would be that lucky.
I wouldn't pick up a hitch hiker off the side of the road and give them a lift for 6 hours, would you?

Approach manager with your concern stating the van share is causing you stress and anxiety.
State that you live with a vulnerable person and are tryng to protect them as much as possible.
If no joy self certify and see your GP with anxiety isssue.

At a time when workers in offices with ventilation systems, work areas that allow for social distancing, designated eating areas, washroom and toilet facilities, are being asked by the government to work from home.
It seems unreasonable, unsafe and unnecessary for workers to share the confined space of the front of a RM van for several hours in the winter time, with the only ventilation system being open or partially open windows.
Never mind the hygiene issues around meal breaks, toilet breaks or even the guidelines around washing your hands and mask wearing.
Remember van sharing, driver training and training to learn a duty are not the same.
Ask your manager or union rep for a copy of any agreement around training during a pandemic

2 metres in work. Not face each other on bus into work. Then share van. Open window great in rain.Wot a load of bollocks.Welsh gov telling people to work from home. If u dont want to drive tell your manager it's getting to stressful.Our DIM had a meeting with us all (monday) and said we dont have to share if we dont want to. We got that many off sick we got spare Van's now.

What would be deemed a suitable reason for someone not to van share and what evidence is
required?
Colleagues should speak to their manager and work through their concerns to identify the best way
forward and managers will take advice from the People Case Advise Team (0345 604 2787) to gain
advice where needed.
There may be circumstances where an occupational health referral or letter
from a colleague’s General Practitioner may support us in making the right temporary arrangements
for the colleague.
In most cases we would expect a conversation and agreed way forward to resolve
any concerns.
For how long would we make adjustments such as not sharing vans, adjustments to duties
etc for those who are vulnerable, pregnant, anxious? Is there a review point in mind?
This will be on a case-by-case basis using relevant risk assessment and case circumstances.
