A stress assessment? By who? The DOM? Are they a doctor? No he should refuse a back to work and speak to his GP. I hope he feels better soon.

Disgraceful! What a cock.
Get your mate to get the screw to refer him to Occupational Health.
Get rep and area on the case because the next step is stoppage of pay from said cock.

No DR's in Royal Mail!I am writing in response to your email on the 15/02/2011. We have considered your request under the terms of the Freedom of Information Act 2000. In your email you requested the following:
“….could you please provide the number of frontline managers in delivery and processing within Royal Mail Letters who have had medical training to a level that they can ascertain the health of an employee and give advice as to what work the employee can safely do within the business group as apposed to a doctors certificate.”
I can confirm that we do not hold information of the description specified in your request. Employee health services are managed by an external provider on behalf of Royal Mail.
I'm sorry that we can not be more helpful but the information you have requested is not held.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

Re: Of work with stress
He only need to do a risk assessment when he returns to work.
All that is required from him whilst on sick pay is that he remains in contact.
Referral to occupational health is recommended which will access his mental health ,report him unfit for work and offer counselling.
If it’s work related stress then the employer is entitled to ask what is causing you the stress at work and adjust your job accordingly to relieve the stress. At this point you would be asked to return to work.

Re: Of work with stress
Ah this old chestnut. The DOM at my previous office tried this on to said I was required to do a face to face meeting with him. Called the rep said I wouldn’t be doing it and I agree to talk on the phone. Pretty sure the first face to face is 28 days after the first absence. The only reason he wanted to see me as he thought I was blaming him for my stress after he found out it wasn’t he didn’t seem bothered and he never asked for a another meeting.

Re: Of work with stress
If its work related then its best to talk about it with the employer or it can not be resolved, for anything else professional help is the way forward. Easy job so the amount of stress sickness should be telling the top management something is wrong with the workload and other issues.

Far too often it's the arseholes in management that cause the stress and they know it. Why would you dignify their posturing by taking part in such a charade?

By this stage of the absence the employee and manager should have met face to face if at all possible.
