Policy Assistant Vacancy
(Education and Training Department)
Salary: £36,633 rising to £38,783 per annum
Based at our London Headquarters in Wimbledon
The Communication Workers Union represents over a quarter of a million members employed in Postal, Telecommunications, Information Technology and related industries including Financial Services.
The CWU provides a comprehensive education and training programme for our activists and a well developed lifelong learning service for our members, which demonstrates the Union 's strong commitment to delivering educational opportunities for working people.
We have a vacancy for a Policy Assistant whose key responsibility will be to assist the Head of Education and Training in the development and implementation of various training, education and lifelong learning programmes for CWU activists and members, and to contribute to the smooth running of the department.
The successful candidate will have:
Highly developed communication skills, both written and presentational.
A proven commitment to the trade union movement.
Sound negotiating skills
Experience of researching sources and opportunities for external funding.
Knowledge of current government and TUC policy on lifelong learning
Experience of operating in the industrial relations field, and of the collective bargaining process
Working knowledge of best practice in employing, managing and recruiting staff
Excellent problem solving and self-motivational skills, and the ability to work without direct supervision
A good general standard of education or equivalent work experience
Proven IT Skills
Ability to travel extensively throughout Britain and Northern Ireland .
Additionally, it will be an advantage for the Policy Assistant to have:
Experience of managing people
Experience of delivering educational and learning projects
Experience of formulating and writing funding bids.
